Delving into the depths of Core Keeper's dungeons and caves is where the true adventure lies, offering a wealth of resources, powerful gear, and challenging encounters. This guide will equip you with the knowledge to navigate these treacherous subterranean realms effectively.

Preparation is Key

Before venturing into any significant dungeon or cave system, thorough preparation is paramount. Rushing in unprepared will often lead to a swift demise.

Lighting: The underground is perpetually dark. Always carry an ample supply of Torches or craft a Mining Helmet for hands-free illumination. Remember that torches placed on walls provide static light, while the Mining Helmet moves with you.
Tools: A sturdy Pickaxe is essential for breaking through walls and mining ore. Consider crafting a Copper Pickaxe as a minimum, upgrading to Tin or Iron as soon as possible for increased mining speed and durability.
Weapons & Armor: Equip the best available Melee Weapon (e.g., Copper Sword, Tin Sword) or Ranged Weapon (e.g., Wooden Bow with Wooden Arrows). wear your strongest Armor Set (e.g., Copper Armor, Tin Armor) to mitigate damage from hostile creatures.
Healing Items: Stock up on Bandages or cooked food items like Cooked Larva Meat or Hearty Stir Fry to restore health during combat.
Food & Water: Maintain your hunger and thirst meters. Carry Mushrooms, Larva Meat, or Water Bottles to avoid debuffs.
Base of Operations: Establish a small forward operating base near the dungeon entrance. This can be a simple Bed for a respawn point and a Chest to store excess loot.

Mapping Your Progress

The in-game map is your best friend. Frequently open it to:

Identify Passages: Look for unexplored areas and potential routes.
Mark Points of Interest: Use Map Markers to denote valuable ore veins, dangerous enemy spawners, or the location of your temporary base.
Avoid Getting Lost: The underground can be disorienting. Regularly checking your map prevents endless wandering.

Encountering Enemies

Dungeons and caves are teeming with various creatures. Be prepared for different combat scenarios:

Larva: Common early-game enemies. Easily dispatched with any weapon. Drop Larva Meat.
Slimes: Come in various sizes and colors, with larger ones posing a greater threat. They often drop Slime for crafting.
Cavelings: More aggressive humanoid enemies. They can wield basic weapons and often appear in groups. Prioritize taking out ranged Cavelings first.
Bosses: Deeper dungeons often house powerful bosses like Ghorm the Devourer or The Hive Mother. These encounters require specific strategies and superior gear. Consult dedicated boss guides for detailed tactics.

Resource Gathering

The primary draw of dungeons and caves is the abundance of valuable resources.

Ore Veins: Look for glowing veins of Copper Ore, Tin Ore, Iron Ore, and later, Gold Ore and Scarlet Ore. Mine these with your pickaxe.
Crystals: Glow Tulips and other crystal formations provide Glowstone and other valuable crafting materials.
Gems: Occasionally, you'll find Rubies, Emeralds, and Sapphires embedded in walls or dropped by enemies. These are crucial for crafting higher-tier items.
Mushrooms & Plants: Collect various mushrooms for food and crafting, and keep an eye out for rare plants that yield unique ingredients.

Advanced Exploration Tips

Tunneling: Don't be afraid to dig your own paths. If a passage is blocked or you need a shortcut, your pickaxe is your solution.
Bridge Building: For crossing gaps or bodies of water, carry Wood Bridges or Stone Bridges.
Teleporters: Once unlocked, place Teleporters at strategic locations (e.g., near valuable mining spots or deep within a dungeon) to quickly return to your base or other key areas.
Pet Companions: Certain pets, like the Caveling Larva pet, can provide minor combat assistance or help locate hidden items.
