Keyboard Shortcuts

Mastering Core Keeper's keyboard shortcuts can dramatically improve your efficiency, especially during intense combat encounters or large-scale base building projects. While the game offers intuitive mouse controls, integrating these keybinds into your workflow will make you a true subterranean explorer.

General Navigation & Interaction

  • Movement: Use the standard W, A, S, D keys to move your character.
  • Interact/Action: The Left Mouse Button is your primary interaction key for mining, attacking, and using tools.
  • Place/Use Item: The Right Mouse Button is used to place blocks, use consumables, or activate certain items from your hotbar.
  • Open Inventory: Press I or Tab to open your inventory. This is crucial for managing your gear, crafting, and storing items.
  • Open Map: Press M to bring up the world map. This is invaluable for navigation, especially in the sprawling underground biomes like the Clay Caves or Azeos' Wilderness.
  • Open Chat: Press Enter to open the chat window for multiplayer communication.
  • Toggle UI: Press F1 to hide or show the user interface. Useful for taking screenshots!
  • Quick Stack to Chest: While your inventory is open and you are near a chest, hold Shift and click on items in your inventory to quickly move them to the chest. This is a massive time-saver when organizing your storage in your base.
  • Split Stack: Hold Shift and drag a stack of items to split it. This is essential for crafting specific quantities or sharing resources with friends.

Hotbar & Item Management

Your hotbar is your immediate access point for tools, weapons, and consumables. Efficient hotbar management is key to survival.

  • Select Hotbar Slot: Use the number keys 1 through 0 (or 1 through = depending on your layout) to select the corresponding slot on your hotbar.
  • Scroll Hotbar: Use the Mouse Wheel Up/Down to quickly cycle through your hotbar slots. This is excellent for rapidly switching between your Copper Pickaxe, Copper Sword, and a healing item like a Glow Tulip.
  • Quick Consume: While a consumable item (like a Heart Berry or a Cooked Mushroom) is selected on your hotbar, simply press the Right Mouse Button to use it. No need to open your inventory!

Combat & Defense

In the dangerous world of Core Keeper, quick reflexes and efficient combat actions are paramount.

  • Attack: Left Mouse Button. Timing your attacks is crucial against enemies like the Cavelings or Giant Slimes.
  • Dodge Roll: Press Spacebar to perform a dodge roll. This is an essential defensive maneuver to avoid incoming attacks from bosses like Glurch the Abominable Mass or Ghorm the Devourer. Practice this often!
  • Use Equipped Tool/Weapon: Whichever item is currently selected on your hotbar will be used with the Left Mouse Button. Ensure you have the correct tool for mining or weapon for combat.

Base Building & Crafting

When constructing your underground sanctuary or setting up complex automated farms, these shortcuts will streamline the process.

  • Place Block/Item: Right Mouse Button. This is used for placing walls, floors, crafting stations, and decorative items.
  • Rotate Placement: While holding a placable item, press R to rotate it before placing. This is particularly useful for optimizing the layout of your Furnaces, Workbenches, or even decorative furniture.
  • Open Crafting Menu: While near a Workbench, Smelter, or other crafting station, press E to open its specific crafting interface. This saves you from having to click on the station directly.

Remember, these are the default keybindings. You can always customize your keybinds in the game's settings menu to better suit your playstyle. Experiment and find what works best for your subterranean adventures!
