Query Mode
Query Mode is an invaluable tool for any Core Keeper delving deep into the caverns. It allows you to quickly gather detailed information about various elements within your dungeon, from the health of a Caveling to the status of a crafting station. Mastering Query Mode will significantly improve your efficiency and strategic decision-making.
Activating Query Mode
To activate Query Mode, simply press the Q key on your keyboard. Your cursor will change, indicating that you are now in Query Mode. While active, clicking on any object or creature will display its relevant information in the Information Panel located on your UI.
Querying Creatures and NPCs
When you click on a creature or NPC in Query Mode, the Information Panel will display a wealth of data:
- Health Bar: Shows the current health and maximum health of the entity. Essential for gauging combat readiness or healing needs.
- Status Effects: Any active buffs or debuffs (e.g., "Poisoned," "Enraged," "Speed Boost") will be listed, often with their remaining duration.
- Faction: Identifies if the creature is hostile, neutral, or friendly. For NPCs like the Merchant or Caveling Elder, this confirms their role.
- Aggro Range: For hostile creatures, this indicates the approximate distance at which they will detect and attack you. Useful for planning stealth or ranged engagements.
- Drops: A list of potential items the creature might drop upon defeat. This is particularly useful for farming specific resources like Slime Oil from Slimes or Ancient Gems from bosses.
Strategy Tip: Use Query Mode on new enemy types to quickly learn their weaknesses and potential drops before engaging in a full-scale battle. This can save you valuable resources and prevent unnecessary deaths.
Querying Objects and Structures
Query Mode is equally powerful for examining environmental elements and player-built structures:
- Crafting Stations: Clicking on a Workbench, Furnace, or Alchemy Table will show its current crafting queue, available recipes, and required materials. This helps in managing your production lines.
- Storage Containers: Querying a Wooden Chest, Iron Chest, or any other storage unit will display its contents without needing to open the inventory screen. This is a massive time-saver for organizing your base.
- Mining Veins: When you click on a Copper Ore, Tin Ore, or Iron Ore vein, Query Mode will show the estimated remaining quantity of ore. This helps you prioritize which veins to mine.
- Plants and Crops: Querying a Glow Tulip, Bomb Pepper, or other crops will display their growth stage and estimated time until harvest. Essential for efficient farming.
- Walls and Floors: While less critical, querying walls and floors can sometimes reveal their durability or if they are reinforced, which can be useful for base defense planning.
Actionable Step: When exploring a new biome, use Query Mode on unfamiliar plants or geological formations. This can reveal hidden resources or environmental hazards you might otherwise overlook.
Exiting Query Mode
To exit Query Mode, simply press the Q key again. Your cursor will revert to its normal state, allowing you to interact with the world as usual.
By integrating Query Mode into your gameplay, you'll gain a significant advantage in understanding and managing your Core Keeper world, making your adventures more efficient and enjoyable.
