The Hand of Evil
The Hand of Evil is your primary tool for interacting with the world of Core Keeper. Think of it as an extension of your will, allowing you to manipulate the environment, manage your inventory, and direct your actions. Mastering its various functions is crucial for efficient gameplay.
Basic Interactions
- Left-Click (Primary Action): This is your most frequent interaction.
- Mining/Gathering: When hovering over a mineable tile (e.g., Dirt Wall, Copper Ore Vein, Stone Wall), a left-click will initiate mining. Ensure you have the appropriate pickaxe equipped for faster and more effective resource collection.
- Attacking: When hovering over an enemy creature (e.g., Larva, Caveling, Slime), a left-click will initiate an attack with your currently equipped weapon.
- Placing Items: With an item selected in your hotbar, left-click on an empty tile to place it (e.g., Torches, Walls, Workbenches).
- Interacting with Objects: Left-click on chests to open them, furnaces to access their interface, or NPCs to initiate dialogue.
- Right-Click (Secondary Action/Contextual): The right-click offers contextual actions depending on what you're hovering over.
- Using Tools: With a tool equipped (e.g., Shovel, Hoe), right-click to use its specific function (e.g., digging up loose dirt, tilling soil).
- Consuming Items: Right-click on food or potions in your inventory or hotbar to consume them.
- Opening Menus: Right-click on certain craftable structures or machines (e.g., Workbench, Furnace, Forging Anvil) to open their respective crafting or processing interfaces.
- Moving Items (Inventory): Within your inventory, right-clicking an item will move a single unit of that item to an open slot or stack. Holding Shift and right-clicking will move the entire stack.
Advanced Hand of Evil Techniques
- Dragging and Dropping:
- Inventory Management: Click and hold an item in your inventory or hotbar to drag it to a different slot, a chest, or even out of your inventory to drop it on the ground.
- Quick Stacking: Drag an item onto an existing stack of the same item to combine them.
- Area Selection (Building/Mining): For larger tasks, the Hand of Evil can be used to select areas.
- Building Walls/Floors: Select a wall or floor type from your hotbar. Click and hold, then drag your cursor to highlight a larger area. Release to place multiple tiles simultaneously. This is incredibly efficient for base building.
- Mass Mining: While less common for mining, some tools or future mechanics might allow for area-of-effect mining. Always check tool descriptions for such capabilities.
- Query Mode (Information Gathering): While not directly part of the "Hand of Evil" itself, understanding how to query objects is essential for informed decision-making.
- Default Query: Simply hovering your cursor over most objects, creatures, or tiles will display a tooltip with basic information (e.g., item name, creature health, tile type).
- Detailed Query (Future Feature/Mod Potential): Keep an eye out for potential future updates or community mods that might introduce a dedicated "Query Mode" (similar to other games) allowing you to right-click or use a specific keybind to get more in-depth information about an object or creature, such as its stats, drops, or environmental effects.
Tips for Efficient Use
- Hotbar Organization: Keep frequently used items (pickaxe, weapon, torches, healing items) easily accessible on your hotbar. This minimizes time spent navigating your inventory.
- Practice Makes Perfect: The more you play, the more intuitive the Hand of Evil will become. Experiment with different clicks and drags to discover new efficiencies.
- Context is Key: Always pay attention to the visual feedback your cursor provides. It often changes to indicate what action will be performed (e.g., a pickaxe icon over a wall, a sword icon over an enemy).
