Character Stats & Attributes
Understanding your character's stats and how to effectively boost them is crucial for surviving and thriving in the perilous world of Core Keeper. This guide breaks down each attribute, explains its impact, and provides actionable strategies for optimization.
Core Attributes
These are the fundamental statistics that govern your character's capabilities. They can be increased through various means, including equipment, food buffs, and skill progression.
- Health (HP): Your character's life force. When it reaches zero, you are defeated.
- Boosting HP:
- Equipment: Look for armor pieces like the Copper Helmet, Copper Breastplate, and Copper Leggings early on. Later, focus on Iron and Scarlet tier armor.
- Food: Consuming cooked dishes like Hearty Stew (requires Bomb Pepper, Glow Tulip, Heart Berry) provides significant temporary HP boosts. Heart Berries themselves offer a small, immediate recovery.
- Skill Tree: Invest points in the Vitality skill line under the Combat tree for passive HP regeneration and maximum HP increases.
- Boosting HP:
- Melee Damage: Determines the effectiveness of your close-quarters attacks.
- Boosting Melee Damage:
- Weapons: Prioritize crafting and finding higher-tier melee weapons. Start with the Copper Pickaxe (can be used as a basic weapon), then move to Copper Sword, Iron Sword, and eventually Scarlet Sword or unique boss drops.
- Accessories: Items like the Larva Ring (found in Azeos' Wilderness or dropped by Larva enemies) can provide small melee damage bonuses.
- Skill Tree: The Melee Combat skill line offers direct damage increases, attack speed buffs, and critical hit chance improvements.
- Food: Spicy Stir-fry (requires Bomb Pepper, Cave Mushroom, Carrock) is excellent for temporary melee damage buffs.
- Boosting Melee Damage:
- Ranged Damage: Affects the power of your projectile attacks.
- Boosting Ranged Damage:
- Weapons: Craft a Wood Bow early, then upgrade to Copper Bow, Iron Bow, and Scarlet Bow. Experiment with different arrow types like Stone Arrows and Iron Arrows for varied damage.
- Skill Tree: The Ranged Combat skill line focuses on increasing ranged damage, projectile speed, and critical hit chance for bows and other ranged weapons.
- Food: Mushroom Salad (requires Cave Mushroom, Glow Tulip) can provide a temporary ranged damage boost.
- Boosting Ranged Damage:
- Mining Damage: How quickly you can break blocks and extract resources.
- Boosting Mining Damage:
- Pickaxes: Always use the highest-tier pickaxe available. Progress from Wood Pickaxe to Copper Pickaxe, Tin Pickaxe, Iron Pickaxe, and Scarlet Pickaxe.
- Skill Tree: The Mining skill tree offers direct mining speed increases, efficiency bonuses, and even a chance to find extra ore.
- Food: Hearty Stir-fry (requires Heart Berry, Carrock, Cave Mushroom) provides a temporary mining speed buff.
- Boosting Mining Damage:
- Movement Speed: How fast your character moves across the map.

Secondary Attributes & Effects
These attributes provide additional benefits and can significantly impact your gameplay, often synergizing with your core stats.

- Critical Hit Chance: The probability of dealing extra damage with an attack.
- Boosting Critical Hit Chance: Certain weapons, accessories like the Critical Ring (found in Forgotten Ruins or dropped by Cavelings), and specific skill tree nodes (e.g., in Melee Combat or Ranged Combat) can increase this.
- Stamina: Used for sprinting, dodging, and certain tool actions.
- Boosting Stamina: The Running skill line offers improved stamina regeneration. Some food items, like Mushroom Soup (requires Cave Mushroom), can also provide temporary stamina boosts.
- Loot Luck: Increases the chance of finding rarer items from enemies and resource nodes.
- Boosting Loot Luck: The Luck skill line (under Foraging) is the primary way to increase this. Certain unique accessories might also offer small bonuses.
Strategic Stat Allocation
Your ideal stat distribution will depend heavily on your preferred playstyle and current progression:
- Early Game (Copper/Tin Biomes): Focus on a balanced approach. Prioritize Mining Damage for resource gathering, then invest in Health and your primary Combat Damage type (Melee or Ranged) for survival against early enemies like Slimes and Larva. The Swift Ring is invaluable for exploration.
- Mid Game (Iron/Azeos' Wilderness): As you face tougher bosses like Ghorm and The Hive Mother, specialize more.
- Melee Builds: Maximize Melee Damage, Health, and Armor. Look for weapons like the Iron Sword and armor sets.
- Ranged Builds: Focus on Ranged Damage, Movement Speed (for kiting), and Health. The Iron Bow becomes a staple.
- Late Game (Scarlet/Sunken Sea): Optimize for specific boss encounters and high-tier resource farming. Consider investing heavily in Critical Hit Chance and specific damage types. Don't neglect Loot Luck for finding rare drops from bosses like Azeos the Sky Titan and Omoroth the Sea Titan.
Remember to constantly evaluate your gear and food buffs to adapt to the challenges ahead. A well-prepared Core Keeper is a successful Core Keeper!
