After collecting all four Trophies from Citadel City, you'll face Pinstripe Potoroo. This boss battle takes place on a modified version of Hot Air Skyway. Pinstripe's unique attack involves firing a machine gun.
Phase 1: Machine Gun Fire
Pinstripe Potoroo will periodically stop and fire his machine gun in a cone in front of him. If you are caught in the spray, you will spin out. The key is to anticipate when he's about to fire and quickly move out of his line of sight. He often fires on straightaways or after turns. Maintain your speed and try to stay ahead of him. If you fall behind, be prepared to dodge his bullets. Use your power slides and mini-turbos to maintain speed and create distance. If you get a shield item, save it for when you're close behind him and need to pass through his firing zone.
Phase 2: Increased Fire & Strategic Stops
As the race progresses, Pinstripe will fire his machine gun more frequently and stop in more strategic locations, often on narrow paths or just before jumps, making it harder to avoid. The key to beating Pinstripe is to maintain a consistent lead and avoid his gunfire. The Hot Air Skyway shortcut (jumping over the large gap) is crucial here to gain a significant advantage. If you can consistently hit the shortcut and maintain your speed, you'll have a much easier time. Winning this race unlocks the final confrontation with Nitros Oxide.
