Defensive and utility items are crucial for protecting your lead, recovering from attacks, or gaining a strategic advantage. Knowing when to use these items can be the difference between winning and losing.
- Shield (Blue/Red/Green): Creates a protective bubble around your kart, absorbing one hit from an offensive item. Can be thrown forward or backward. Juiced Up: Lasts longer, can absorb multiple hits (Blue Shield), or becomes a homing projectile (Red/Green Shield).
- Aku Aku / Uka Uka Mask: Grants temporary invincibility and a speed boost. You can ram through opponents and obstacles without spinning out. Juiced Up: Longer duration, higher speed boost.
- Turbo: Provides a short burst of speed. Juiced Up: Longer duration, more powerful boost.
- Super Turbo: A more powerful version of the Turbo, providing a stronger and longer speed boost. Juiced Up: Even longer duration and higher speed.
- Power-Up Crate: Not an item itself, but the source of all items. Break these to get a random item.
Shields are invaluable for protecting a lead, especially on the final lap. Aku Aku/Uka Uka masks are excellent for recovering from a bad position or for safely navigating dangerous shortcuts. Always be aware of your current item and be ready to deploy it defensively if an opponent is targeting you.
