Relic Races become available for each track after you've won its Trophy in Adventure Mode. In this mode, you race against the clock to complete three laps as fast as possible. The unique twist is that there are 'Time Crates' scattered around the track. Hitting a Time Crate freezes the timer for 1, 2, or 3 seconds, depending on the crate.
Strategy:
- Hit All Time Crates: Your primary goal is to hit as many Time Crates as possible, especially the '3' second ones.
- Maintain Speed: While hitting crates, you still need to maintain your racing line and speed. Don't sacrifice too much momentum for a crate.
- Master Shortcuts: Shortcuts are even more critical here than in regular races, as they can shave off huge chunks of time.
- Perfect Power Slides: Consistent triple mini-turbos are essential for achieving the fastest times.
- Practice: Relic Races are often the most challenging activity. You'll need to learn the optimal path that combines speed with crate collection.
There are three tiers of Relics: Sapphire, Gold, and Platinum. Earning a Platinum Relic on every track is one of the toughest challenges in the game. Collecting Relics is necessary to unlock Gem Cups in Adventure Mode.
