Court Chaplain / Realm Priest Guide
The Court Chaplain, often referred to as the Realm Priest in some cultures and religions, is your spiritual advisor. Their primary role is to manage religious affairs within your realm, influencing the faith of your populace and your relationship with religious heads. Their actions can lead to greater stability, increased piety, and even the ability to wage holy wars.
Primary Task: Convert County
- Assigning your Court Chaplain to "Convert County" in a province within your realm will gradually increase the religious fervor and conversion rate towards your faith. This is vital for maintaining religious unity, preventing heresies from gaining traction, and reducing the chance of religious revolts. Focus on counties with a different dominant faith or those with low piety.
- The effectiveness of "Convert County" is directly tied to your Court Chaplain's Learning skill and their opinion of you. A higher Learning skill leads to faster conversion.
Other Tasks:
- Increase Piety: This task directly generates piety, a resource used for various religious actions, such as excommunicating rivals, divorcing spouses, or declaring holy wars. A steady income of piety is crucial for ambitious rulers.
- Improve Religious Relations: If you have a significant religious minority within your realm, or if you wish to improve relations with a fore religious leader, your Court Chaplain can work to "Improve Religious Relations." This can help to quell dissent and foster a more peaceful coexistence.
- Excommunicate Target: If your religion allows, your Court Chaplain can attempt to excommunicate a target character. This makes them an outcast, severely damaging their reputation and making them a prime target for hostile schemes.
- Fabricate Religious Hook: Similar to fabricating a claim, your Court Chaplain can attempt to "Fabricate Religious Hook" on a character. This can provide leverage for blackmail or force them into actions against their will.
Choosing Your Court Chaplain: High Learning skill is the most important attribute. Perks from the Learning lifestyle, such as "Theologian" and "Scholar," will enhance their abilities. Traits that boost piety generation or improve religious relations are also valuable.
Religious Head Relationship: Your Court Chaplain's opinion of you and your relationship with your religious head (if applicable) are crucial. A good relationship can grant you boons, while a poor one can lead to excommunication or other penalties.
