Prestige and Piety are the two most crucial abstract resources in Crusader Kings III, representing your character's renown and spiritual standing. They are essential for enacting powerful decisions, maintaining control over your realm, and shaping the future of your dynasty and faith.
Generating Prestige:
- Winning Battles & Wars: The most direct way to gain Prestige is by achieving military victories. Winning battles, especially against significant opponents, and successfully concluding wars will grant substantial amounts of Prestige.
- Holding Tournaments & Grand Hunts: Organizing and participating in tournaments and grand hunts provides a consistent source of Prestige. The success of these events, and your performance within them, directly impacts the Prestige gained.
- Character Lifestyle & Traits: Certain lifestyle focuses, particularly the "Martial" and "Diplomacy" trees, offer perks and events that grant Prestige. Traits like "Brave," "Gallant," and "Ambitious" also contribute to Prestige generation.
- Feats & Achievements: Completing specific in-game achievements or enacting powerful decisions that are recognized by the realm will often reward Prestige.
- Vassal Opinion & Fealty: While not a direct generation, maintaining high opinion with your vassals and ensuring their loyalty can prevent Prestige loss and indirectly support your standing.
- Inheritance & Succession: Becoming a ruler through inheritance, especially if you inherit a large or prestigious realm, grants an initial boost of Prestige.
Generating Piety:
- Attending Religious Services: Regularly attending religious services, either through your ruler's actions or by having your chaplain organize them, is a primary source of Piety.
- Pilgrimages: Undertaking pilgrimages to holy sites relevant to your faith (e.g., Rome for Catholicism, Mecca for Islam) can yield significant Piety rewards, especially upon successful completion.
- Character Lifestyle & Traits: The "Faith" lifestyle focus offers numerous opportunities to gain Piety through events and perks. Traits like "Devout," "Zealous," and "Ascetic" also boost Piety generation.
- Building Religious Structures: Constructing and upgrading religious buildings within your domain, such as churches, mosques, or temples, can increase your Piety generation over time.
- Conversions & Crusades: Successfully converting counties to your faith or participating in holy wars (Crusades, Jihads) can grant substantial amounts of Piety.
- Interacting with the Church: Maintaining good relations with your religious head (e.g., the Pope, the Caliph) and fulfilling their requests can also lead to Piety gains.
Both Prestige and Piety are vital for enacting powerful decisions like declaring wars, fabricating claims, or reforming your faith. A ruler with low Prestige may struggle to command respect, while a ruler with low Piety might face religious dissent and instability.
