Gold
Gold is the most ubiquitous and essential currency. It is primarily generated by your holdings, particularly cities, and through vassal taxes. Gold is used for a vast array of actions: constructing buildings, raising armies, hiring mercenaries, bribing courtiers, fabricating claims, and much more. Running out of gold can cripple your ability to act, making it a constant concern for any ruler.
Piety
Piety is a religious resource generated by temples and through certain character traits and events. It is crucial for rulers of organized faiths. Piety allows you to perform powerful religious actions, such as excommunicating troublesome vassals, divorcing unwanted spouses, or even declaring holy wars. High piety can also improve your relationship with your religious head and fellow believers.
Prestige
Prestige is a measure of your dynasty's fame and renown. It is gained through heroic deeds, winning battles, holding prestigious titles, and through certain character traits and events. Prestige is primarily used for actions related to your dynasty's standing, such as granting titles, educating children, and undertaking certain lifestyle-related activities. A high prestige level can attract better courtiers and make your dynasty more appealing to potential alliances.
Renown
Renown is a unique resource that represents the overall fame and influence of your entire dynasty across generations. It is gained primarily through having rulers with positive traits, achieving significant dynastic accomplishments, and through certain lifestyle perks. Renown is spent on powerful dynasty-wide abilities, such as the ability to recruit powerful knights, claim distant thrones, or even influence the succession of other rulers. Investing in renown is key to establishing a truly legendary dynasty.
Levies & Men-at-Arms
While not traditional currencies, levies and Men-at-Arms are your primary military resources. Levies are the peasant levies raised from your direct holdings and your vassals' lands. They are cheap but often poorly trained and equipped. Men-at-Arms are professional soldiers, such as archers, spearmen, or heavy cavalry, which provide significant combat bonuses and are essential for winning wars. Both are maintained by gold, and their effectiveness is directly tied to your development and building choices.
