Steward Guide
The Steward is your economic and administrative advisor, focused on managing your realm's finances and infrastructure. While they may not wield a sword or a diplomatic tongue, their influence on your realm's prosperity and stability is immense. A skilled Steward can fund your wars, build magnificent structures, and ensure your people are content.
Primary Task: Collect Taxes
- Assigning your Steward to "Collect Taxes" in a county within your realm will increase the gold income generated from that territory. This is the most direct way to boost your treasury, essential for funding armies, buildings, and bribes. Prioritize counties with high development and low corruption.
- The effectiveness of "Collect Taxes" is directly tied to your Steward's Stewardship skill. Higher skill means more gold.
Other Tasks:
- Develop Province: This is a crucial task for long-term growth. Assigning your Steward to "Develop Province" will increase the development level of a county. Higher development leads to increased tax income, levy size, and faster building construction. This is a slow but incredibly rewarding process.
- Build Buildings: Your Steward can oversee the construction of various buildings within a county. These buildings provide a wide range of bonuses, from increased tax and levy to improved combat prowess and reduced stress. Choose buildings that complement your strategy and the county's resources.
- Manage Vassal Taxes: This task allows you to directly influence the tax contributions of your vassals. You can increase their tax burden, but be warned: this will significantly lower their opinion of you and can lead to factions. Use this sparingly and with caution.
- Oversee Construction: If you have a specific building project underway, your Steward can be assigned to "Oversee Construction" to speed up its completion.
Choosing Your Steward: High Stewardship skill is paramount. Perks from the Stewardship lifestyle, such as "Prosperity" and "Architect," will significantly boost your realm's economy and infrastructure. Traits that increase opinion or reduce stress are also beneficial.
Balancing Act: Remember that "Collect Taxes" can decrease peasant opinion, while "Develop Province" and "Build Buildings" generally improve it. Find a balance that keeps your treasury full without inciting too many rebellions.
