Side Quests & Activities
While Crusader Kings III lacks a traditional quest log, personal narratives emerge through specific Event Chains and Activity Hubs. These 'side quests' allow you to tailor your ruler’s legacy beyond mere territorial conquest. Engaging with these requires specific triggers—found either in the 'Activities' menu (bottom right) or by right-clicking character portraits.
Common Narrative Activities:
- The Hunt & Feast: Accessed via the Activities menu, these provide immediate Stress relief and Prestige. Success depends on your 'Master of Hunt' or 'Seneschal' court positions; ensure these are filled before starting to maximize rewards.
- Romance & Seduction: Right-click a character to start a 'Sway' or 'Seduce' scheme. This triggers a series of choice-based events to gain powerful lovers or spouses, providing 'Strong Hooks' useful for manipulating foreign courts.
- Pilgrimages: Used to gain Piety and the 'Pilgrim' trait. You must choose a route and travel speed; selecting a 'Hazardous' route triggers more story events but risks character injury.
- Wardenship & Education: Right-click your child to 'Adopt a Ward.' This triggers unique events where you decide their personality traits (e.g., choosing between Gregarious or Shy), directly shaping the next generation’s stats.
- Trait-Based Dilemmas: Traits like 'Ambitious' or 'Lunatic' generate unique random events. For example, a 'Flagellant' character can choose to self-harm to lose Stress, while a 'Scholar' can search for lost texts to gain massive Lifestyle Experience.
To engage with these effectively, monitor your Stress Level. When Stress is high, the game will force a 'Mental Break' side quest; choosing the 'optimal' path here often involves adopting a new coping trait (like Athletic or Drunkard) which unlocks new unique decisions for the rest of your character's life.
