Mission 4: Safeties Off
Welcome to "Safeties Off," where the stakes are higher and the Ceph are more aggressive. This mission focuses on disabling critical Ceph systems and navigating treacherous environments. Stealth and tactical combat are key to survival.
Objective: Reach the Ceph Control Tower
Your primary goal is to infiltrate the Ceph Control Tower. This area is heavily guarded by both CELL operatives and Ceph forces, often engaging each other, which you can use to your advantage.
- Initial Approach: As you begin, you'll be in a relatively open area. Immediately activate your Cloak and scan the environment for enemy patrols. Prioritize marking high-value targets like Ceph Stalkers or CELL Heavy Troopers.
- Weapon Acquisition: Look for a SCAR Mod 2 or a Typhoon early on. These weapons are versatile and effective against both human and Ceph enemies. Consider attaching a Suppressor to the SCAR Mod 2 for stealth takedowns.
- Navigating the Ruins: The path to the tower is littered with destroyed buildings and overgrown vegetation. Use these as cover. There's often a higher vantage point you can reach by jumping or climbing, offering a good overview of enemy positions.
- Dealing with Patrols:
- Stealth Option: Use your Bow with Carbon Arrows for silent, one-shot kills on isolated enemies. If multiple enemies are grouped, a well-placed Explosive Arrow can clear them out quickly.
- Direct Combat Option: If you prefer a more direct approach, engage from cover. use your Armor Mode when taking heavy fire. Remember to pick up enemy weapons and ammo as needed.
- Intel and Upgrades: Keep an eye out for Nanosuit Upgrade Kits. These are often found in secluded corners or inside small structures. Hacking CELL turrets or automated defenses can turn them against their owners, creating valuable diversions.
Objective: Disable the Ceph Energy Conduit
Upon reaching the vicinity of the Control Tower, you'll need to disable a large Ceph Energy Conduit that powers the tower's defenses.
- Locate the Conduit: The conduit is a large, glowing structure, usually protected by a force field or heavy Ceph presence. Use your Tactical Visor to pinpoint its exact location and identify any weak points.
- Enemy Reinforcements: Expect increased resistance around the conduit. Ceph Prowlers and even a Ceph Devastator might appear. Focus fire on their weak spots (glowing orange areas) to take them down efficiently.
- Disabling the Conduit:
- Method 1 (Direct Interaction): Some conduits require you to physically interact with a console or exposed core. This often leaves you vulnerable, so clear the immediate area first.
- Method 2 (Environmental Hazard): In some instances, you can use the environment to your advantage. Look for explosive barrels or unstable structures that, when destroyed, can damage the conduit.
- Post-Disabling: Once the conduit is down, the path to the Control Tower will open up, but be prepared for a final wave of Ceph retaliatory forces.
Objective: Infiltrate the Control Tower Core
With the conduit disabled, enter the Control Tower and proceed to its core.
- Tower Interior: The interior of the tower is often a maze of Ceph technology and advanced defenses. Expect laser grids, automated turrets, and more elite Ceph units.
- Hacking Opportunities: use your hacking ability to disable laser grids or turn turrets. This can save you valuable health and ammo.
- Final Confrontation: The core itself will likely be guarded by a significant Ceph force, possibly including a Ceph Guardian or multiple Stalkers. Use all your Nanosuit abilities – Cloak for tactical repositioning, Armor Mode for defense, and your most powerful weapons – to overcome this challenge.
- Mission Completion: Interact with the main control panel within the core to complete "Safeties Off."
