Demon Prince Solo & Co-op Tactics

The Demon Prince is a formidable two-phase boss encounter that serves as a significant challenge in The Ringed City. Successfully navigating this fight requires patience, precise timing, and an understanding of its attack patterns.

Solo Strategy:

When facing the Demon Prince alone, focus on learning the attack patterns of each individual demon during the first phase. The smaller demon is more aggressive with quick, sweeping attacks, while the larger demon utilizes slower, more powerful slams and fire breath. Prioritize dodging and only attack when there's a clear opening, typically after a combo or a heavy attack. For the second phase, when the Demon Prince emerges, its attacks become more varied and dangerous. It will employ a mix of melee strikes, AoE fire attacks, and a devastating grab. Maintaining a medium distance is often safest, allowing you to react to its lunges and slams. When it charges its fire breath, sprint to its side or behind it to avoid the damage and land a few hits. Be mindful of its health bar; when it's low, it will begin to self-heal, so you must be aggressive to finish it off.

Co-op Strategy:

In co-op, communication and role distribution are key. Ideally, one player can act as a 'tank,' drawing the aggro of the demons, while the other focuses on dealing damage. During the first phase, have one player engage the smaller demon and the other the larger one. This splits their attention and makes it easier to manage their individual attacks. For the second phase, the 'tank' should try to keep the Demon Prince focused on them, allowing the other player to flank and attack its vulnerable rear. Be aware that in co-op, the boss's health pool increases significantly, so sustained damage is crucial. If a player falls, the remaining player must play defensively until the downed player can be revived or the boss's attention is diverted.

Key Tactics for Both:

  • Weapon Choice: Weapons with good reach and decent damage are recommended. Consider weapons that can stagger the demons, creating openings.
  • Estus Management: Be judicious with your Estus Flasks. Healing during a large attack animation is safer than trying to heal when the boss is actively pursuing you.
  • Summoning: If struggling, consider summoning other players or NPCs. The additional damage and distraction can make a significant difference.
