Master Darkeater Midir's dangerous fight in Dark Souls III: The Ringed City. Understand the tells behind his powerful bites and claw swipes for successful Dodg.

Midir's Attack Patterns Explained

Darkeater Midir's attack patterns are designed to overwhelm and punish even experienced players. Understanding the tells and recovery times of each move is paramount to survival. His most common attacks include:

  • Bite: Midir will lunge forward with his jaws, a quick and often punishing attack. This is usually followed by another bite or a claw swipe. Dodge to the side or slightly behind him.
  • Claw Swipes: He will use his massive claws to swipe at the player. These can be single or double swipes. Dodge through them or away from the direction of the swipe.
  • Stomp: Midir will lift a leg and stomp down, creating a shockwave. This is often followed by a claw swipe. Dodge away from the stomp or through it if you're close enough.
  • Tail Sweep: When players are behind him, Midir will often sweep his tail. This has a wide arc and can catch players off guard. Roll through the tail or create distance.
  • Fire Breath (Ground): Midir will lower his head and spew fire directly in front of him. This is a sustained attack. Create distance or dodge to the side.
  • Fire Breath (Aerial): Midir will leap into the air and spew fire downwards, covering a large area. This is often used when players are at a distance. Dodge away from the impact zone.
  • Dark Beam (Phase 2): In his second phase, Midir unleashes a devastating dark beam from his mouth. This is a continuous stream of dark energy. The tell is a deep inhalation. Dodge away from the beam's path. This is his most dangerous attack.
  • Charge Attack: Midir will charge forward, often breathing fire as he runs. This is a good opportunity to attack his head if you can position yourself correctly.

The key to surviving Midir's onslaught is to stay mobile and learn his rhythm. His attacks often have a slight delay before they connect, allowing for dodges. When he performs his larger, more telegraphed attacks, such as the dark beam or a powerful stomp, these are your primary windows of opportunity to strike his head. Be patient; rushing in will likely lead to punishment. Observe his movements, learn the tells, and only attack when it's safe. His head is his weak point, so all efforts should be made to attack it, but only when an opening presents itself.
