Slave Knight Gael Solo & Co-op Tactics — Dark Souls III: The Ringed City Guide

Master Slave Knight Gael solo or in co-op within Dark Souls III: The Ringed City. Learn tactics for dodging and counter-attacking Gael's patterns.

Facing Slave Knight Gael can be approached with different tactics depending on whether you are tackling him solo or with the aid of other players. In a solo encounter, patience and precise dodging are your greatest allies. Focus on learning Gael's attack patterns and identifying the safe windows for counter-attacks. Prioritize dodging through his swings to end up behind him, where you can often land one or two hits before needing to reposition. Weapons with good reach and quick attack animations are beneficial. If you are using a Strength build, focus on heavy-hitting weapons and look for openings after his larger, more telegraphed attacks. For Dexterity builds, faster weapons allow for more frequent, smaller hits. When playing in co-op, the dynamic shifts. Gael's aggro will be split between players, which can create more openings for everyone. However, his attacks can also become more chaotic and harder to track. It's advisable for one player to act as a primary 'tank,' drawing Gael's attention, while the other players focus on dealing damage from a safer distance or flanking him. Communication is key in co-op; call out when Gael is targeting you or when you see a significant opening. Be aware that Gael's health pool increases with each additional phantom, so prolonged fights are common. Regardless of your approach, managing your Estus Flasks and staying calm under pressure are essential for overcoming this challenging boss.
