The Ringed City introduces, or rather re-emphasizes, the threat of Curse and Frostbite, two status effects that can severely hinder your progress. Understanding how they work and how to mitigate them is crucial for survival in this final, unforgiving DLC. Curse, in particular, can be a persistent nuisance, often leading to instant death or significant health reduction if not managed.
Curse
Curse is a status effect that, when fully procced, will instantly kill you and reduce your maximum HP by half until you are cured. This effect is primarily associated with specific enemies and environmental hazards within The Ringed City. The most notable source of Curse is the Hollows found throughout the area, particularly those that spit Cursed projectiles. Additionally, certain items or traps can inflict Curse.
- Mitigation: The primary way to avoid Curse is by maintaining distance from its sources and dodging effectively. Items like the Purging Stone are essential for removing the Curse status effect. Stock up on these before venturing into areas known for Curse.
- Armor: While no armor completely negates Curse, some pieces offer a slight resistance. However, relying on armor alone is not recommended.
- Respeccing: If you find yourself struggling immensely with Curse, consider respeccing your character to invest in higher Vitality for more HP, making the HP reduction less devastating, or to equip spells that aid in evasion.
Frostbite
Frostbite is another status effect that can be encountered, though it is less prevalent than Curse. When Frostbite builds up, it deals a burst of damage and temporarily slows your stamina regeneration. This can be particularly dangerous in combat, as it leaves you vulnerable.
- Sources: Frostbite can be inflicted by certain enemies and their weapon attacks.
- Mitigation: Consuming a Rime-Blue Moss Clump will cure Frostbite. Similar to Curse, maintaining distance and dodging attacks is key to preventing buildup.
Both Curse and Frostbite require a proactive approach. Don't wait until you're afflicted to think about them. Keep your inventory stocked with the necessary consumables and be mindful of the enemies and environments that can inflict these debilitating statuses. A moment of carelessness against a Cursed enemy can end your run instantly.
