Luck Build Guide
For players seeking a unique and often overlooked playstyle in Dark Souls III: The Ringed City, a Luck build can offer surprising effectiveness, particularly with certain weapon types and item discovery. While not as straightforward as a pure Strength or Dexterity build, a well-executed Luck build leverages status effects and increased item drops to its advantage.
The core of a Luck build revolves around increasing your Luck attribute. This attribute directly influences item discovery rate, which is crucial for farming rare crafting materials and covenant items. More importantly, Luck significantly boosts the buildup rate of various status effects, such as Bleed, Poison, and Frostbite. These effects can turn the tide of difficult encounters, especially against bosses and tougher enemies that might otherwise require brute force.
Key Stats to Prioritize:
- Luck: The primary stat. Aim for at least 40 Luck, and potentially up to 60 or even 99 if you're heavily invested.
- Vigor: Essential for survivability, especially in the challenging areas of The Ringed City. Aim for 30-40 Vigor.
- Endurance: More stamina means more attacks, dodges, and blocks. 25-30 Endurance is a good starting point.
- Dexterity/Strength: Invest enough to meet the requirements of your chosen weapons. Some weapons scale well with Luck, while others benefit from a secondary stat.
Recommended Weapons:
Weapons that inherently inflict status effects or have good scaling with Luck are ideal. Consider:
- Anri's Straight Sword: This unique straight sword scales directly with Luck and is a fantastic early-to-mid-game option. Infusing it with a Hollow Gem further enhances its Luck scaling and adds an additional Luck bonus.
- Katanas (e.g., Washing Pole, Onikiri and Ubadachi): These weapons are excellent for applying Bleed. Infuse them with a Hollow Gem to benefit from Luck scaling and increased Bleed buildup.
- Daggers (e.g., Bandit's Knife): Another strong choice for rapid Bleed application.
- Special Weapons: Weapons like the Storyteller's Staff (for its poison cloud WA) or the Serpent-God's Curved Sword (for its HP-restoring weapon art) can also be viable depending on your build focus.
Rings:
- Jolly Cooperation Ring: Increases Luck when co-op phantoms are present.
- Hollow Gem Infusion: When two-handing a Hollow-infused weapon, you gain +5 Luck per Hollow-infused weapon equipped (up to a maximum of +10). This is a cornerstone of high-Luck builds.
- Ring of Favor: Boosts HP, Stamina, and Equip Load.
- Prisoner's Chain: Increases Vigor, Endurance, and Vitality at the cost of increased damage taken.
- Chloranthy Ring: Improves stamina recovery.
Gameplay Strategy:
Focus on applying status effects quickly. For Bleed builds, aim to land multiple hits in succession to trigger the Bleed proc, which deals a significant chunk of damage. For Poison or Frostbite, maintain pressure to keep the buildup high. Your increased item discovery will also be a boon for farming the necessary upgrade materials and consumables.
The Ringed City presents formidable challenges, and a Luck build, while requiring a different approach, can be incredibly rewarding. Experiment with weapon infusions and status effects to find what works best for you against the unique threats of this final DLC.
