Summoning & Invasion Mechanics

Master summoning and invasion mechanics in Dark Souls III: The Ringed City. Stay in Ember form to see player summon signs and prepare for PvP encounters.

Summoning and invasion mechanics in The Ringed City DLC function similarly to the base game but are integrated into the new, challenging environments. Understanding these systems is key to both seeking help and engaging in player-versus-player combat.

  • Summoning Players: To summon other players for cooperative play, you will need to be in Ember form. Look for gold ss left by other players near bonfires or boss arenas. The number of summon ss you see is influenced by your online settings, particularly the password matchmaking.
  • Being Summoned: If you wish to help others, use a White S Soapstone or Small White S Soapstone to place your summon s. You will be transported to the host's world to aid them.
  • Invasions: When you are in Ember form and not currently in a boss fight or co-op session, you are vulnerable to invasions from hostile players using a Red S Soapstone, Cracked Red Eye Orb, or the Darkmoon Blade covenant. These invaders aim to defeat you.
  • Defending Against Invasions: If invaded, you can attempt to defeat the invader. If you have allies summoned, they will also help you defend. Some areas in The Ringed City are particularly prone to invasions due to their layout and proximity to bonfires.
  • Spears of the Church Covenant: This unique covenant in the DLC allows you to be summoned as a defender of Filianore's Rest. In this role, you act as an NPC boss, fighting against invading players who are trying to reach the final boss.

The online interactions in The Ringed City can significantly alter the difficulty and experience, offering both assistance and new threats.
