This chapter of our guide will navigate you through the murky swamps, treacherous forests, and the perilous encounters that await. You'll learn how to overcome the new enemy types, locate crucial items and covenants, and prepare for the formidable challenges ahead as you journey towards the Crystal Sage and the Cathedral of the Deep.

The Road of Sacrifices marks a significant step up in difficulty from the High Wall of Lothric. Expect more aggressive enemies, environmental hazards, and a greater emphasis on strategic positioning and resource management. We'll guide you through each perilous turn, ensuring you uncover every secret and emerge victorious, ready to face the trials that lie beyond this forsaken stretch of land.

Upon entering the Road of Sacrifices from the Halfway Fortress bonfire, you'll immediately notice the change in scenery and enemy types. The path ahead is linear initially, leading you through a forested area populated by new, more aggressive foes. Your primary objective in this initial stretch is to reach the Crucifixion Woods bonfire, which serves as a crucial hub for the next part of your journey.

Proceed cautiously along the main path. You'll encounter several Hollow Slaves wielding torches and machetes; these enemies are quick but have low poise. Further ahead, you'll find Corvian Knights, bird-like creatures that are fast and can inflict bleed. Engage them one at a time if possible. Look for a path branching off to the left, leading to a small encampment with more Hollow Slaves and a Large Soul of a Deserted Corpse. Back on the main path, you'll soon reach a small bridge. Be wary of the Evangelist patrolling nearby; her attacks are slow but powerful, and she can buff other enemies. Focus her down quickly.

After crossing the bridge, you'll find the Crucifixion Woods bonfire. This is an excellent spot to rest and prepare. From here, you have several paths to explore, including the swamp below and the path leading towards the Crystal Sage. speak with Anri of Astora and Horace the Hushed near the bonfire if you haven't already; they offer valuable lore and are part of an important questline.

Exploring the Upper Path

From the Crucifixion Woods bonfire, head straight past Anri and Horace. You'll encounter more Corvian Knights and a new enemy type: the Lycanthrope, a large, wolf-like creature that can be quite aggressive. Lure them out one by one if possible. To your left, you'll find a small alcove containing a Titanite Shard. Continue along the main path, dealing with the Lycanthropes. You'll soon reach a small ruin. Inside, you'll find a Great Scythe and a path leading up to a higher ledge. This ledge offers a good vantage point and leads to a Grass Crest Shield, an excellent early-game shield for stamina regeneration. Be careful of the Lycanthrope ambush near the shield.

Descent into the Swamp

From the Crucifixion Woods bonfire, take the path leading down into the murky swamp. This area is riddled with hazards and powerful enemies. The water slows your movement, making you vulnerable. You'll encounter Crabs, some of which are giant and can inflict significant damage. Prioritize taking out the smaller crabs first. Look for glowing items in the water; these often contain valuable loot such as Titanite Shards, Green Blossoms, and Estus Shards. Be extremely cautious of the Black Knights patrolling certain sections of the swamp; these are formidable foes that can easily one-shot an unprepared player. It's often best to avoid them or lure them to higher ground where your movement isn't impeded. Your ultimate goal in the swamp is to find the entrance to the Farron Keep, but first, you'll need to navigate the dangers and find the path to the Crystal Sage.
