Confession Boss: The Body of Work (Ambition)
The Body of Work, the final boss of the Ambition Confession, presents a unique challenge that tests your party's ability to manage stress, deal with high-priority targets, and adapt to shifting combat conditions. This guide will walk you through the fight, offering strategies and recommendations to ensure your success.
Phase 1: The Pen and the Pages
The fight begins with The Body of Work (Position 4) accompanied by two Inspiration enemies (Positions 1 and 2) and a Blank Page (Position 3). Your primary goal in this phase is to eliminate the Inspiration enemies as quickly as possible, as they are the main source of stress and buffs for The Body of Work.
- Target Priority: Focus fire on the Inspiration enemies first. They have relatively low health but can inflict significant stress and apply powerful buffs to The Body of Work.
- Stress Management: The Inspirations' "Flow State" ability can quickly escalate your party's stress. Heroes with strong stress-healing abilities, such as the Jester (using "Inspiring Tune" or "Battle Ballad") or the Man-at-Arms (using "Bolster"), are invaluable here. Consider equipping trinkets like the Profane Scroll (from the Librarian) or the Greater Sharpened Quill (from the Academic) to boost stress healing or damage against backline targets.
- Damage Dealers: Ranged damage dealers like the Highwayman ("Pistol Shot," "Duelist's Advance") or the Runaway ("Searing Strike," "Cauterize") excel at reaching and eliminating the Inspirations. Melee heroes with forward-moving skills, such as the Hellion ("Iron Swan") or Flagellant ("Punish"), can also contribute effectively.
- The Blank Page: While the Blank Page is present, it will absorb some damage and can apply minor debuffs. However, it's not a primary threat. Ignore it until the Inspirations are dealt with, unless you have excess damage to spare.
Phase 2: The Author's Fury
Once both Inspirations are defeated, The Body of Work will become vulnerable and begin to use more direct attacks. The Blank Page, if still alive, will transform into a Corrupted Page, gaining new abilities.
- The Body of Work's Attacks: The Body of Work will now primarily use "Scribble" (single target damage and stress) and "Rewrite" (area-of-effect stress and minor damage). It also has a powerful "Masterpiece" attack that can deal heavy damage and apply a significant stress burst to a single target.
- Corrupted Page: The Corrupted Page will now use "Ink Spill" (blight and stress) and "Obscure" (blind and dodge tokens). It's still a lower priority than The Body of Work, but its debuffs can be annoying.
- Focus Fire: Shift all your damage to The Body of Work. It has high health but is susceptible to all damage types.
- Tanking and Healing: Ensure your tank (e.g., Man-at-Arms with "Retribution" or Leper with "Withstand") is absorbing hits and your healer (e.g., Occultist with "Wyrd Reconstruction" or Vestal with "Divine Grace") is keeping the party healthy. Trinkets like the Greater Guardian's Shield (from the Hoarder) or the Conquering Shield (from the Academic) can significantly boost your tank's survivability.
- Debuffs and DoTs: Apply Blight (Plague Doctor: "Noxious Blast," "Plague Grenade") and Bleed (Flagellant: "Punish," "Suffer"; Jester: "Harvest") to The Body of Work to chip away at its health. Debuffs like Weakness (Man-at-Arms: "Strategic Withdrawal") can reduce its damage output.
Phase 3: The Final Draft
As The Body of Work's health drops, it will become more desperate, often using "Masterpiece" more frequently. If a Corrupted Page was present and defeated, it may respawn as a new Blank Page, restarting the cycle of Inspiration creation if not dealt with quickly.
- Prioritize The Body of Work: Do not get distracted by newly spawned Blank Pages or Corrupted Pages unless your party is on the verge of collapse from stress or damage. Your primary focus remains on bringing down The Body of Work.
- Burn Phase: This is the time to unleash your strongest attacks and combat items. Use Combat Items like Medicinal Herbs (to clear blights/bleeds), Healing Salves, and Laudanum (for stress relief). If you have any remaining Battle Stimulants, now is the time to use them on your primary damage dealers.
- Death's Door Management: Be prepared for heroes to hit Death's Door. Have healing available and consider using defensive skills to keep them alive. The Vestal's "Mantra" or Occultist's "Sacrificial Stab" (if upgraded) can provide crucial Death's Door resist.
Recommended Party Composition & Trinkets
A well-balanced party with strong damage, stress healing, and sustain is crucial for The Body of Work. Here are some effective combinations:
- Frontline Tank: Man-at-Arms (Retribution, Bolster, Defender, Rampart) or Leper (Withstand, Chop, Hew, Solemnity).
- Trinkets: Greater Guardian's Shield, Conquering Shield, Greater Heavy Crown.
- Damage Dealer/Off-Tank: Hellion (Iron Swan, Yawp, Bleed Out, Adrenaline Rush) or Flagellant (Punish, Suffer, Exsanguinate, Redeem).
