Achievements & Trophies
Darkest Dungeon offers a challenging and rewarding experience, and its achievements and trophies are no exception. Many of these are tied to significant milestones, boss defeats, or specific, often arduous, gameplay conditions. This section will guide you through some of the more challenging or commonly sought-after accomplishments, providing actionable strategies to help you earn them.
General Progression Achievements
These achievements are typically earned through natural progression, but understanding their triggers can help you prioritize certain actions.
- A Collection of Curios: Interact with a certain number of different curios. To expedite this, always carry several provision items (e.g., Shovels, Keys, Bandages, Medicinal Herbs) into dungeons. Each region has unique curios, so explore them all.
- Valiant Effort: Defeat a specific number of boss monsters. Focus on clearing each region's boss at Apprentice, Veteran, and Champion difficulty. The Necromancer, Hag, Cannon, and Siren are your primary targets in the early game.
- The First Step: Complete your first Darkest Dungeon quest. This is a story-related achievement and will unlock once you successfully navigate the initial horrors of the Darkest Dungeon itself. Ensure your heroes are fully upgraded (skills, gear, resolve level 6) and equipped with the best trinkets.
Challenging Feats & Specific Conditions
Some achievements require more deliberate planning and often involve specific hero compositions or unusual strategies.
Strictly Business
Complete a quest with a party of four heroes, all of whom have the "Claustrophobia" quirk.
This achievement is less about combat prowess and more about careful hero management. Claustrophobia causes significant stress in hallway battles. Here's how to tackle it:
- Quirk Management: In the Hamlet, frequently check the Stage Coach for new recruits. Prioritize heroes who already have "Claustrophobia." If you have heroes you like, you can try to induce the quirk by sending them into dungeons with high stress environments (e.g., Warrens). However, this is less reliable.
- The Sanitarium: Crucially, do not remove the Claustrophobia quirk from any hero you intend to use for this achievement. You'll need four distinct heroes with it.
- Dungeon Choice: Select a short, low-difficulty (Apprentice) dungeon. The Ruins or Weald are good choices as they tend to have fewer stress-dealing enemies than the Warrens or Cove.
- Party Composition:
- Stress Healers: A Jester (Battle Ballad, Inspiring Tune) or a Crusader (Inspiring Cry) is almost mandatory. You'll be taking a lot of stress.
- Stunners/Damage: Heroes like the Plague Doctor (Blinding Gas) or Man-at-Arms (Rampart) can help control fights, reducing the number of turns enemies have to inflict stress.
- Healers: A Vestal (Divine Grace, Divine Comfort) is always a strong choice to keep HP up.
- Provisions: Bring extra Torches to keep light levels high (reduces stress) and plenty of Laudanum for emergency stress relief. Bandages and Antivenom are also standard.
- Strategy: Focus on eliminating stress-dealers first (e.g., Cultist Acolytes, Madmen). Use your stress healer's abilities liberally. Retreat if stress levels become critical for multiple heroes. The goal is simply to complete the quest, not necessarily to clear every room.
That's a Big One!
Defeat the Hag in the Weald.
The Hag is a unique boss that requires specific party planning. Her main mechanic involves tossing one of your heroes into a giant cooking pot, dealing continuous damage and stress.
- Target Priority: The pot is the primary target. It has its own HP bar. You need to deal enough damage to the pot to free your hero. The Hag herself is immune to direct attacks while a hero is in the pot.
- Party Composition:
- High Damage/Frontline: A Hellion (If It Bleeds, Wicked Hack) or a Bounty Hunter (Collect Bounty, Finish Him) are excellent for quickly damaging the pot.
- Ranged Damage: A Highwayman (Pistol Shot, Point Blank Shot) or a Musketeer/Arbalest (Sniper Shot, Blindfire) can consistently hit the pot from the back ranks.
- Healer: A Vestal (Divine Grace, Divine Comfort) is crucial to keep the rest of your party healthy while one hero is cooking.
- Flex Spot: A Crusader (Smite, Zealous Accusation) for damage and stress healing, or another high-damage dealer.
- Trinkets: Equip trinkets that boost damage (e.g., Ancestral Pistol, Heaven's Hairpin) or provide protection (e.g., Barricade Shield) to your frontline.
- Strategy:
- Immediately focus all damage on the pot when a hero is thrown in.
- Once the hero is freed, switch focus to the Hag. She will likely throw another hero into the pot shortly after.
- Manage stress with trinkets or abilities if possible, as the Hag's attacks and the pot itself inflict stress.
- Keep your party's health topped off, as the pot's damage can be significant over time.
The Ultimate Sacrifice
Complete a Darkest Dungeon quest with a hero who has the "Paranoid" quirk.
Paranoid heroes gain significant stress when interacting with curios. The Darkest Dungeon itself is a gauntlet of stress and challenging encounters, so this requires careful management.
- Hero Selection: Identify a hero with the "Paranoid" quirk. Ideally, this hero should be one you're comfortable taking into the Darkest Dungeon – a Resolve Level 6 hero with fully upgraded skills and gear.
- Sanitarium: As with Claustrophobia, do not remove this quirk.
- Darkest Dungeon Preparation:
- Party Composition: A strong, balanced team is essential. Include at least one dedicated stress healer (Jester is ideal for the Darkest Dungeon) and a strong primary healer (Vestal). Damage dealers like the Hellion, Highwayman, or Grave Robber are excellent.
- Trinkets: Equip your Paranoid hero with trinkets that boost stress resistance (e.g., Ancestor's Scroll, Tenacity Ring) or provide other crucial defensive stats. For the rest of the party, focus on damage, healing, and stress reduction.
- Provisions: Bring ample Laudanum, Medicinal Herbs (for specific curios), and Bandages. The Darkest Dungeon has unique curios; research their interactions to avoid negative outcomes.
- Strategy:
- Avoid Curios: The most straightforward approach is to simply avoid interacting with any curios if your Paranoid hero is in the party. This means foregoing potential loot or buffs, but it prevents the stress spike.
- Stress Management: Actively use your stress healer's abilities. Prioritize eliminating stress-dealing enemies.
- Camping Skills: use camping skills that reduce stress (e.g., Jester's Turncoat, Crusader's Zealous Speech) or prevent nighttime ambushes.
- Focus on Objectives: The Darkest Dungeon quests often have specific objectives (e.g., activate altars, kill specific enemies). Focus on these and minimize unnecessary exploration to reduce exposure to stress.
