Once you have the essential tools and a secure location, the next step in base building is constructing walls and gates. These fortifications are vital for protecting your loot and creating a defensible perimeter against zombies and other players.

Building a base provides a safe haven in the dangerous world of DayZ. Walls and gates are the primary means of defense, deterring casual raiders and slowing down determined attackers. This section details the process of creating these crucial structures.

Prerequisites for Construction:

  • Tools: Hammer, Saw, Axe.
  • Materials: Logs (from trees), Planks (processed from logs with a saw).
  • Foundation: A base must be built on a foundation. This is often the first step, dug with a shovel.

Constructing Walls:

Wooden walls are the most common type of fortification. They require planks and a hammer.

  1. Craft a Wooden Wall: Open your inventory, select the planks, and choose the 'Craft' option. You will see various wooden structures you can build, including walls.
  2. Place the Wall: Once crafted, equip the wall and find a suitable location, usually connected to a foundation or another wall. You'll see a ghosted outline of the wall; position it as desired.
