DayZ has many subtle mechanics that aren't immediately obvious. Understanding these can give you an edge. Note: 'Exploits' here refers to using game mechanics to your advantage, not cheating.
Hidden Mechanics:
- Weapon Cleaning: Use a Weapon Cleaning Kit on firearms to improve their condition and prevent jamming.
- Weapon Repair: Use a Weapon Repair Kit on firearms to repair them.
- Clothing Repair: Use a Sewing Kit on clothing. Duct Tape can also repair some items.
- Cooking Fat: Animal fat can be cooked and eaten for high caloric value.
- Blood Type Matching: Blood transfusions require matching blood types. Saline bags are universal.
- Unconscious State: You can be knocked unconscious without dying. Epinephrine can revive them.
- Stamina Management: Sprinting uphill or with heavy gear drains stamina faster.
- Wetness & Temperature: Getting wet significantly lowers your temperature, leading to hypothermia.
- Weapon Zeroing: Adjusting your scope's zeroing (Page Up/Page Down) for different distances.
Ethical 'Exploits':
- Server Hopping: Switching servers to quickly loot a specific area (often frowned upon by communities).
- Log-Out Combat: Logging out during a firefight (highly unethical and often bannable on community servers).
- Item Duplication Glitches: (Avoid at all costs, will lead to bans).
