Navigating the economy of DC Universe Online is crucial for gearing up your hero or villain. This section will break down the primary currencies you'll encounter and where to spend them to maximize your character's potential.

Source Marks

Source Marks are the most fundamental currency for acquiring gear in DCUO. They are earned through almost all in-game activities once you reach level 30 and beyond.

• How to Earn:
  • Completing On Duty content (Alerts, Duos, Raids, Operations).
  • Finishing daily and weekly missions from your faction's headquarters or open-world zones.
  • Participating in seasonal events.
  • Opening certain loot boxes or reward caches.
• Where to Spend:
  • Gear Vendors: Located in your faction's headquarters (Watchtower for Heroes, Hall of Doom for Villains). These vendors offer various tiers of gear, typically organized by Combat Rating (CR). Look for vendors labeled "Tier X Gear" (e.g., Tier 1 Gear Vendor, Tier 2 Gear Vendor).
  • Base Item Vendors: Also found in headquarters, these vendors sell items to decorate your personal base.
  • Style Vendors: For cosmetic items and styles to complete your look.
  • Exobyte Vendors: To purchase Exobytes for R&D crafting.
• Strategy: Prioritize spending Source Marks on gear that directly increases your Combat Rating to unlock higher-tier content. Once your CR is sufficient, you can then focus on optimizing stats or acquiring cosmetic styles.

Cash (In-Game Money)

Cash is a universal currency used for basic transactions throughout the game, though its importance diminishes as you progress into endgame content.

• How to Earn:
  • Defeating enemies.
  • Completing missions.
  • Selling unwanted gear and items to regular vendors.
  • Trading with other players.
• Where to Spend:
  • Repair Bots: Essential for repairing damaged gear after being defeated. You can find these in safe houses and headquarters.
  • Consumables: Potions, sodas, and other temporary buffs from vendors in safe houses.
  • Broker Fees: When listing items on the in-game Broker (auction house).
  • Base Upgrades: Purchasing basic amenities or upgrades for your base.
  • Respec Tokens: To reset your skill points or power points (though these can also be bought with Marketplace Cash).

  • Hearts of the Damned: For the Valentine's Day event.
  • Trick or Treat Bags: For the Halloween event.
  • Holly Jolly Bucks: For the Winter Holiday event.
• How to Earn: By participating in the specific event's daily and weekly missions, open-world activities, and instance content.
• Where to Spend: Dedicated event vendors, typically located in the central hub of the event (e.g., the Metropolis or Gotham City event zones, or specific areas within headquarters). These vendors offer unique styles, base items, pets, and sometimes even powerful artifacts or gear relevant to the event.
• Strategy: Always participate in seasonal events! They offer exclusive rewards that can't be obtained otherwise and are a great way to diversify your character's look and collection. Prioritize items you truly want, as these currencies often expire or become unusable once the event concludes.

Valor & Marks of Triumph (Legacy Currencies)

While largely deprecated for current endgame gear, these currencies were historically significant. You might still encounter them in older content or for specific legacy items.

• Valor: Was primarily earned from PvP activities.
• Marks of Triumph: Was earned from PvE content.
• Where to Spend: Legacy vendors, often found near the current gear vendors in headquarters, offering older tier gear or cosmetic items.
• Strategy: Unless you are specifically collecting old styles or achievements, these currencies are generally not a priority for new players.

Marketplace Cash (Real Money Currency)

Marketplace Cash is purchased with real-world money and allows access to premium items and services.

• How to Earn: Purchased directly from the DCUO Marketplace.
• Where to Spend: The in-game Marketplace, accessible via your menu. This includes:
  • Legendary Membership: Grants access to all DLCs, unlimited cash cap, and other benefits.
  • DLC Packs: If not a Legendary member.
  • Cosmetic Items: Exclusive styles, auras, materials, and accessories.
