Weapons & Ammunition
The Plasma Cutter is considered by some to be the strongest weapon in Dead Space Remake, especially for Impossible Mode due to reduced ammo drops. Focusing on a single weapon like the Plasma Cutter can conserve ammunition, though it struggles against Swarmers, Guardians, and Dividers. Other weapons like the Ripper and Pulse Rifle offer different tactical advantages and are needed for certain achievements.
There are a total of 9 Weapons in the game, which must all be collected to earn the Full Arsenal trophy. Unlike the original, the Remake provides the actual weapons directly rather than schematics. All weapon rooms can be backtracked to if any are missed. The final weapon, the Force Gun, unlocks an achievement upon collection.
Weapon Acquisition & Strategy
- Plasma Cutter: This is a highly recommended weapon, especially for higher difficulties. Maxing out its damage early with Power Nodes is a strong strategy.
- Ripper: Found in the Machine Shop on Floor 4, directly at the bottom of the stairs. Players need to get 30 kills with the Ripper for an Achievement. It is suggested to cycle between the Ripper and Pulse Rifle for kills when ammo is available, reserving the Plasma Cutter for tense situations. Store excess ammo instead of selling it.
- Pulse Rifle: After achieving 30 kills with the Pulse Rifle, it can be placed into Storage to prevent further ammo drops for it, allowing more ammo to drop for other equipped weapons.
- Force Gun: The final weapon collected in the game, which unlocks an achievement.
Initial Upgrading
Initial Power Nodes should be invested primarily into the Plasma Cutter's damage and the Suit. Once the Plasma Cutter's damage is maxed and a significant portion of the Suit is upgraded, players can begin experimenting with and upgrading other weapons. Upgrading the Suit's Air at least once is also important for sections with long stints without life support.
