Swarmer
The Swarmer is a small, fast-moving necromorph in Dead Space (Remake) that attacks in overwhelming numbers. This guide details their swarm tactics and the most effective strategies for dealing with these relentless, bite-sized horrors.
Among the many terrifying creatures that inhabit the USG Ishimura, the Swarmer presents a unique challenge due to its sheer numbers. These small, agile necromorphs attack in dense swarms, overwhelming Isaac Clarke with a barrage of bites and claws. While individually weak, their collective ferocity can quickly drain Isaac's health if not dealt with decisively.
Swarmer Characteristics
- Swarm Tactics: Swarmers rarely attack alone. They emerge in large groups, often from vents, corpses, or hidden alcoves, and converge on Isaac simultaneously.
- Fast and Agile: Their small size and quick movements make them difficult to target individually with precise weapons.
- Weak Individual Health: Each Swarmer has very little health and can be dispatched with a single shot from most weapons.
- Damage Over Time: While their individual attacks are minor, a swarm can inflict significant damage over time through continuous biting.
Combat Strategies
The key to defeating Swarmers is to employ area-of-effect (AoE) tactics and crowd control. Trying to pick them off one by one is often futile and a waste of precious ammunition.
- Area of Effect (AoE) Weapons: These are your best friends when dealing with Swarmers.
- Flamethrower: The Flamethrower is exceptionally effective. Its wide spray of fire can incinerate multiple Swarmers at once, dealing damage over time and creating a zone of denial. Upgrading its spread and duration is highly recommended.
- Force Gun: The Force Gun's concussive blast can push back entire groups of Swarmers, creating much-needed space for Isaac to reposition or reload. At close range, it can even disintegrate them.
- Pulse Rifle (with upgrades): While not an AoE weapon, the Pulse Rifle's rapid fire rate can help thin out a swarm quickly if you can aim effectively. Upgrades that increase its spread or damage can make it more viable.
- Explosive Barrels: If Swarmers are clustered near an explosive barrel, a well-placed shot can clear a significant portion of the swarm.
- Environmental Hazards: Look for any environmental traps or hazards that can damage multiple enemies simultaneously.
- Stasis Module: While not ideal for clearing a swarm, using Stasis can temporarily halt their advance, giving you a brief window to use an AoE weapon or escape.
- Listen for Audio Cues: The distinctive chittering and scurrying sounds of Swarmers are your primary warning. Be ready to react as soon as you hear them.
Locations to Watch For
Swarmers are often found emerging from vents, broken machinery, or the bodies of larger necromorphs. They are particularly prevalent in areas where the infestation is dense, such as the Hydroponics Bay, the Medical Deck, and various maintenance tunnels. Be vigilant in areas with multiple entry points or potential hiding spots for them to spawn.
When facing a Swarmer infestation, remember that panic is your enemy. Stay calm, identify the threat, and unleash your most potent crowd-control weapons. A swift and decisive response is the only way to survive their relentless assault.
