Controls & Keybindings
Mastering Colt's unique abilities and arsenal in Deathloop hinges on understanding and optimizing your control scheme. While the default settings offer a solid foundation, customizing your keybindings can significantly enhance your efficiency and combat prowess, especially when facing multiple Juliannas or navigating complex environments like Updaam or Karl's Bay.
General Movement & Interaction
- Movement (W, A, S, D / Left Stick): Standard forward, left, backward, and right movement. Essential for flanking enemies, dodging incoming fire, and navigating the intricate layouts of Blackreef.
- Sprint (Left Shift / L3): Crucial for closing distances quickly, escaping dangerous situations, or performing a tactical retreat. Remember that sprinting makes more noise, potentially alerting nearby Eternalists.
- Jump (Spacebar / X (PlayStation) / A (Xbox)): Used for traversing obstacles, reaching higher ground, and initiating aerial attacks. Combine with sprint for longer jumps.
- Crouch (Left Ctrl / Circle (PlayStation) / B (Xbox)): Reduces your visibility and noise, making stealth approaches viable. Essential for sneaking past patrols or getting into advantageous positions without being detected.
- Interact (F / Square (PlayStation) / X (Xbox)): The universal action button. Use this to open doors, pick up weapons and Trinkets, hack turrets and sensors with the Hackamajig, and interact with objective markers.
- Melee Attack (V / R3): A quick, silent takedown when performed from stealth, or a last-ditch effort in close-quarters combat. Effective against unarmored Eternalists.
Combat & Abilities
- Fire Weapon (Left Mouse Button / R2 / RT): Your primary means of offense. Practice headshots for maximum damage and conserve ammunition.
- Aim Down Sights (Right Mouse Button / L2 / LT): Improves accuracy significantly, especially with longer-range weapons like the Sepulchra Breteira or the Fourpounder.
- Reload (R / Square (PlayStation) / X (Xbox)): Don't get caught with an empty magazine! Reload proactively during lulls in combat.
- Weapon Swap (Mouse Wheel Up/Down / Triangle (PlayStation) / Y (Xbox)): Quickly cycle through your equipped weapons. Consider binding specific weapons to dedicated keys for faster access in intense firefights.
- Use Slab Ability (Q / L1 / LB): Activates your currently equipped Slab power. Whether it's the teleportation of Shift, the invisibility of Aether, or the mind-controlling power of Nexus, timely use of your Slab is paramount.
- Throw Grenade (G / R1 / RB): Excellent for clearing out groups of enemies or flushing them out of cover. Remember to cook grenades for optimal timing.
- Hackamajig (H / D-Pad Up): Equip and use your Hackamajig to disable security systems, hack turrets to turn them against Eternalists, or open locked doors.
Advanced Keybinding Strategies
For PC players, customizing your keybindings can provide a significant edge. Consider these adjustments:
- Dedicated Slab Keys: Instead of cycling through Slabs, bind your most frequently used abilities (e.g., Shift, Aether) to easily accessible keys like
CorZ. This allows for instant activation without fumbling. - Weapon Hotkeys: Assign your primary weapons (e.g., a silenced LIMP-10 for stealth, a Strelak 50-50 for close-quarters) to numerical keys (
1,2,3) for rapid switching. - Melee on Mouse Button: If your mouse has extra buttons, binding Melee to one of them can make quick takedowns more fluid, especially during stealth sections in areas like The Complex.
- Hackamajig Accessibility: Ensure your Hackamajig is bound to a key you can reach quickly, as hacking often needs to be done under pressure.
Experiment with different configurations in the early loops to find what feels most natural and efficient for your playstyle. A well-optimized control scheme can make all the difference in breaking the loop!
