Enemy Types & Weaknesses
Navigating Blackreef requires a keen understanding of the various Eternalists you'll encounter. Each type presents unique challenges and opportunities for exploitation. Mastering their weaknesses is key to a smooth loop and successful Visionary assassinations.
Standard Eternalists
These are the most common enemies, forming the bulk of the Visionaries' security forces. While individually not a huge threat, they can quickly overwhelm Colt in numbers.
- Weaknesses:
- Headshots: A critical hit with any weapon will instantly kill most standard Eternalists. Aim for the head!
- Stealth Takedowns: Approaching from behind for a silent melee takedown is always effective, especially when trying to maintain a low profile.
- Environmental Hazards: Look for opportunities to use the environment. Explosive barrels, precarious ledges, or even well-placed mines (like the Trip Mine or Proximity Mine) can clear groups efficiently.
- Recommended Gear:
- Weapon: The LIMP-10 is excellent for close-quarters headshots, while the Fourpounder or Rapier offer more range and precision.
- Slab: Shift is invaluable for flanking and escaping detection. Aether can also be used to move through areas unnoticed.
- Strategy: Prioritize eliminating snipers and those with heavy weapons first. Use cover extensively and don't be afraid to retreat and regroup if outnumbered.
Heavies (Armored Eternalists)
These Eternalists are distinguished by their bulky armor and often wield powerful weapons like the MG-1 Pepper Mill. They can absorb a significant amount of damage.
- Weaknesses:
- Back Shots: Their armor is weakest on their back. Flanking them for shots to the spine is highly effective.
- Explosives: Grenades, Proximity Mines, or even well-aimed shots at nearby explosive barrels will quickly strip their armor and expose them.
- Nullifier Mines: Placing a Nullifier Mine near a Heavy will disable their ability to use Slabs, making them much easier to deal with.
- Recommended Gear:
- Weapon: The Strelak 50-50 shotgun is devastating at close range, especially against their exposed back. The MG-1 Pepper Mill (if acquired) can also chew through their health.
- Slab: Havoc can provide the damage resistance needed to close the distance for a shotgun blast, or Shift to get behind them quickly.
- Strategy: Avoid direct confrontations if possible. Use stealth to get behind them, or soften them up with explosives before engaging.
Slab-Wielding Eternalists
These are Eternalists who have managed to acquire a Slab, granting them unique abilities. They are more dangerous than standard Eternalists and often act as mini-bosses in certain areas.
- Weaknesses:
- Nullifier Mines: This is your primary tool against Slab users. A well-placed Nullifier Mine will temporarily disable their Slab, rendering them much more vulnerable.
- Focus Fire: Concentrate your attacks on them. They often have slightly more health than standard Eternalists but are still susceptible to headshots and sustained damage.
- Environmental Traps: If you know a Slab user patrols a specific area, set up traps like Trip Mines or lure them into environmental hazards.
- Recommended Gear:
- Weapon: Any high-damage weapon like the Fourpounder or Strelak Verso (in pistol mode for precision, or SMG for burst damage) is effective once their Slab is nullified.
- Slab: Aether can help you get into position for a surprise attack or to place a Nullifier Mine undetected. Karnesis can also be used to throw them off balance, interrupting their Slab use.
- Strategy: Identify Slab users quickly. Prioritize disabling their Slab with a Nullifier Mine or by interrupting their abilities. Once their Slab is down, treat them like an armored Eternalist, aiming for critical spots.
Turrets
Automated defenses that can quickly shred Colt's health if not dealt with properly.
- Weaknesses:
- Hacking: The Hackamajig is your best friend here. Hacking a turret will turn it against its former allies, creating a valuable distraction and source of damage.
- Explosives: A well-placed Grenade or Proximity Mine can destroy a turret instantly.
- Direct Fire (from cover): While risky, a sustained burst of fire from a powerful weapon like the MG-1 Pepper Mill can destroy a turret, especially if you can peek from cover.
- Recommended Gear:
- Tool: The Hackamajig is essential.
- Weapon: Grenades are highly recommended.
- Strategy: Always prioritize hacking turrets. If hacking isn't an option, use explosives from a safe distance. Only engage directly if you have no other choice and ample cover.
Sensors
These devices trigger alarms and alert nearby Eternalists to your presence. They are often placed in strategic choke points.
- Weaknesses:
- Hacking: Use the Hackamajig to disable them silently. This is the preferred method.
- Melee Attack: A single melee strike will destroy a sensor, but it will make noise and alert nearby enemies.
- Silenced Weapons: A single shot from a silenced weapon (like the PT-6 Spiker) can destroy a sensor without alerting enemies, provided no one sees you.
- Recommended Gear:
- Tool: The Hackamajig is crucial for stealth.
- Weapon: The PT-6 Spiker for silent destruction.
- Strategy: Always disable sensors before proceeding through an area. Hacking is the safest option for maintaining stealth.
