This comprehensive walkthrough will detail the most efficient paths, crucial item locations, and strategic advice to ensure your journey to Platinum is as smooth as possible. Prepare for a deep dive into Boletaria's darkest corners!

General Platinum Strategy & Important Considerations

Before embarking on your trophy hunt, keep these critical points in mind:

  • World Tendency (WT) Management: This is paramount. Many trophies, items, and events are tied to specific World Tendency states (Pure White or Pure Black). Plan your WT shifts carefully. Dying in Body Form in a world shifts its WT towards Black. Dying in Soul Form has no effect. Returning to the Nexus after defeating a boss or Black Phantom shifts WT towards White.
  • Character Tendency (CT) Management: Similar to WT, CT affects certain events and items. Killing Black Phantoms (NPC invaders or player invaders) shifts CT towards White. Killing friendly NPCs shifts CT towards Black.
  • New Game+ (NG+): Demon's Souls is designed for multiple playthroughs. Many trophies will require at least 2-3 playthroughs due to spell, miracle, and ring collection, as well as the need to achieve both Pure White and Pure Black World Tendencies in each archstone.
  • Collectibles: Be meticulous with item collection. Many unique weapons, rings, spells, and miracles are easily missed. Our guide will highlight their locations.
  • Save Scumming (Optional): For certain WT events or if you make a mistake, you can back up your save data to the cloud or a USB drive. This allows you to reload an earlier save if something goes awry, particularly useful for WT manipulation or character builds.

How to "Save Scum" on PS5

Save scumming allows you to revert to a previous save state, which is incredibly useful for experimenting with World Tendency, Character Tendency, or ensuring you don't miss a critical item or NPC interaction. There are two primary methods on PS5:

  1. PlayStation Plus Cloud Storage:
    1. Ensure "Auto-Sync Saved Data" is disabled for Demon's Souls. Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5) > Sync Saved Data > Auto-Sync Saved Data and turn it off for Demon's Souls.
    2. Before attempting a risky action (e.g., shifting World Tendency, killing an NPC, making a choice), manually upload your current save data to the cloud. Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5) > Upload or Delete from Console Storage > Demon's Souls > Upload to Cloud Storage.
    3. If your attempt fails or you make a mistake, you can download the cloud save back to your console. Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5) > Download or Delete from Cloud Storage > Demon's Souls > Download to Console Storage. This will overwrite your current local save.
  2. USB Drive:
    1. Insert a compatible USB drive into your PS5.
    2. Before attempting a risky action, copy your current save data to the USB drive. Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5) > Upload or Delete from Console Storage > Demon's Souls > Copy to USB Drive.
    3. If your attempt fails or you make a mistake, copy the save data from the USB drive back to your console. Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5) > Copy from USB Drive > Demon's Souls > Copy to Console Storage. This will overwrite your current local save.

Important Note: Always ensure you are backing up the correct save file and that you understand the implications of overwriting your local save data. Use this feature responsibly.

Trophy Categories & Walkthrough

Sage's Trophy (All Spells)

To earn the Sage's Trophy, you must acquire every single spell in the game. This will require multiple playthroughs and careful planning, as some spells are tied to specific boss souls and others to NPCs who might die or become unavailable.

  1. Rescue Sage Freke:
    • Location: Tower of Latria (3-1), in a cell near the top of the tower.
    • Key Item: Prison of Hope 2F West Key, found on a corpse in the same area, guarded by a Mind Flayer.
    • Action: Free him and he will return to the Nexus.
  2. Rescue Yuria, the Witch:
    • Location: Boletarian Palace (1-3), in a locked tower.
    • Key Item: Iron Key Ring, dropped by the Fat Official near the Tower Knight Archstone (1-2).
    • Action: You'll need to wear the full Fat Official set (Hat, Clothes, Gloves, Boots) to trick the other Fat Official into lowering the stairs to her tower. The full set can be acquired by killing the three Fat Officials in 1-2 and 1-3. Once you have the set, equip it and approach the Fat Official guarding Yuria's tower in 1-3. He will lower the stairs. She will then return to the Nexus.
  3. Collect Boss Souls: Many powerful spells are learned from Freke or Yuria by trading specific Demon's Souls obtained from bosses. Prioritize which spells you want first, as some boss souls can also be used for unique weapons or miracles.
  4. Purchase Spells: Some basic spells can be purchased from Freke, Yuria, or the Disciple of Freke (found in the Nexus after Freke is rescued).

  1. Rescue Saint Urbain:
    • Location: Shrine of Storms (4-2), trapped in a pit.
    • Key Item: No key needed, but you must defeat the Adjudicator (4-1) to access this area.
    • Action: Progress through 4-2 until you encounter Patches the Hyena. Speak to him, and he will trick you into falling into a pit. Defeat the Black Phantom in the pit (or lure it away), then speak to Urbain. He will be free and return to the Nexus.

Homing Soul Arrow Urbain Doll Demon's Soul (Fool's Idol) Powerful homing projectiles.

King of Rings Trophy (All Rings)

This is arguably one of the most challenging trophies due to the sheer number of rings and their often obscure acquisition methods, including specific World Tendency events and Character Tendency requirements. You will definitely need multiple playthroughs.

General Strategy for Rings: It's recommended to aim for all PWWT events in a world first, then shift to PBWT for the Primeval Demon and Black Phantom NPC drops. For Character Tendency, aim for PWCT first, then PBCT on a subsequent playthrough or via save scumming.

  1. Pure White World Tendency (PWWT) Rings:
    • Ring of the Accursed:
      • Location: Boletarian Palace (1-1).
      • How to get: Achieve PWWT in 1-1. The gate to the left of the starting Archstone will be open. Follow the path to find the ring on a corpse near the Red Eye Knight.
    • Master's Ring:
      • Location: Stonefang Tunnel (2-2).
      • How to get: Achieve PWWT in 2-2. Proceed through the level towards the Flamelurker boss arena. Before the boss fog, there's a path leading to a lower area with exploding barrels. The ring is on a corpse on a ledge overlooking this area. You need to drop down carefully.
    • Clever Rat's Ring:
      • Location: Tower of Latria (3-1).
      • How to get: Achieve PWWT in 3-1. On the highest floor of the prison, near the ballista, there's a broken railing. Drop down to a ledge below to find the ring on a corpse.
    • Ring of Sincere Prayer:
      • Location: Shrine of Storms (4-1).
      • How to get: Achieve PWWT in 4-1. After defeating the Vanguard demon (the one that drops the Large Hardstone Shard), a new path will open up near the first archstone. Follow it to find the ring on a corpse.
    • Ring of the Great Beast:
      • Location: Valley of Defilement (5-1).
      • How to get: Achieve PWWT in 5-1. Near the shortcut gate that leads back to the Archstone, there's a path that opens up. Follow it to find the ring on a corpse.
  2. Pure Black World Tendency (PBWT) Rings:
    • Foe's Ring:
      • Location: Nexus.
      • How to get: This ring is obtained from the Monumental after achieving Pure Black Character Tendency (PBCT) and completing Mephistopheles' questline.
        1. Achieve PBCT: Repeatedly kill friendly NPCs (e.g., Blacksmith Boldwin, Stockpile Thomas, Patches, Urbain, Freke, Yuria). Each kill shifts CT towards Black. Be aware this will make the game harder and lock you out of their services.
        2. Rescue Yuria, the Witch (1-3).
        3. Rescue Sage Freke (3-1).
        4. Rescue Saint Urbain (4-2).
        5. Find Patches the Hyena (2-2 or 4-2) and have him return to the Nexus.
        6. Find Biorr of the Twin Fangs (1-2) and have him return to the Nexus.
        7. Find Ostrava of Boletaria (1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4).
        8. Once you have PBCT, Mephistopheles will appear on the second floor of the Nexus, near the staircase leading to the Monumental.
        9. Mephistopheles will give you a series of assassination contracts:
          • Kill Saint Urbain and his disciples.
          • Kill Sage Freke and his apprentice.
          • Kill Patches the Hyena.
          • Kill Biorr of the Twin Fangs.
          • Kill Yuria, the Witch.
        10. After completing all contracts, Mephistopheles will reward you with the Foe's Ring.
    • Ally's Ring:
      • Location: Nexus.
      • How to get: Obtained from the Monumental after achieving Pure White Character Tendency (PWCT).
        1. Achieve PWCT: Defeat Black Phantom NPCs (e.g., Scirvir in 2-2 PBWT, Satsuki in 4-1 PBWT, Rydell in 3-1 PBWT, Miralda in 1-1 PBWT). Each defeat shifts CT towards White. Defeating invading players also shifts CT towards White.
        2. Once PWCT is achieved, speak to the Monumental in the Nexus. They will give you the ring.
    • Ring of the Uneven Scales:
      • Location: Stonefang Tunnel (2-1).
      • How to get: Achieve PBWT in 2-1. A Primeval Demon will appear in the tunnel leading to the Armor Spider boss. Kill it to get the ring.
    • Ring of the Wicked:
      • Location: Tower of Latria (3-2).
      • How to get: Achieve PBWT in 3-2. A Primeval Demon will appear in the swamp area, near the giant heart. Kill it to get the ring.
    • Ring of the Accursed:
      • Location: Shrine of Storms (4-2).
      • How to get: Achieve PBWT in 4-2. A Primeval Demon will appear in the hidden path behind the illusionary wall near the first Reaper. Kill it to get the ring.
    • Ring of the Great Beast:
      • Location: Valley of Defilement (5-2).
      • How to get: Achieve PBWT in 5-2. A Primeval Demon will appear in the swamp, near the shortcut to the boss. Kill it to get the ring.
    • Ring of the Uneven Scales:
      • Location: Boletarian Palace (1-3).
      • How to get: Achieve PBWT in 1-3. A Primeval Demon will appear on the path leading to the Penetrator boss fog. Kill it to get the ring.

Trophy of the Slayers (Defeat all named Black Phantoms)

This trophy requires defeating specific Black Phantom NPCs that appear only under Pure Black World Tendency (PBWT) in their respective worlds. This will require careful World Tendency manipulation.

  • Black Phantom Miralda:
    • Location: Boletarian Palace (1-1).
    • How to get: Achieve PBWT in 1-1. The gate near the starting Archstone (same as Ring of the Accursed in PWWT) will be open. Miralda will be inside, wielding a large axe. She is a tough opponent.

    • How to get: Achieve PBWT in 5-2. Selen will appear in the swamp, near the shortcut to the boss. She drops the Blind weapon.
  • Important Note: Defeating these Black Phantoms shifts your Character Tendency towards White. If you are also aiming for the Foe's Ring (PBCT), plan your playthroughs accordingly or use save scumming.

Trophy of the Pureblood (Obtain the Pureblood Demon's Soul)

This trophy is earned by defeating Maiden Astraea (5-3) and acquiring her Pureblood Demon's Soul. This is part of the natural game progression.

Trophy of the Moonlight (Obtain the Large Sword of Moonlight)

This trophy is earned by acquiring the Large Sword of Moonlight.

  • Location: Valley of Defilement (5-2).
  • How to get: In the swamp area, near the shortcut to the boss, there's an illusionary wall. Roll into it to reveal a hidden path leading to the sword.

Trophy of the Hardcore (Defeat a boss without taking any damage)

This trophy requires you to defeat any boss without taking a single hit of damage.

  • Recommended Bosses:
    • Phalanx (1-1): Very early boss, easily defeated with firebombs or Turpentine-coated weapons. Stay at a distance and pick off the Hoplites.
    • Fool's Idol (3-1): With a strong ranged attack (magic or bow), you can often defeat her before she poses a threat. Remember to kill the Dregling in the back to prevent her resurrection.
    • Storm King (4-3): Use the Storm Ruler (found in the arena) and target the Storm Beasts. The boss itself is invulnerable until all Storm Beasts are defeated. Stay under cover from the manta rays.
    • Maiden Astraea (5-3): If you kill Garl Vinland at range (e.g., with a bow from the ledge above), Astraea will commit suicide, granting you the trophy without any risk.
  • Strategy: Equip light armor for faster rolls, use ranged attacks, and learn the boss's attack patterns perfectly. Save scumming can be very useful here.

Trophy of the Legendary Warrior (Obtain the Demonbrandt and Soulbrandt)

This trophy requires you to obtain both the Demonbrandt and Soulbrandt swords.

  • Demonbrandt:
    • Location: Boletarian Palace (1-4), Mausoleum.
    • How to get: After defeating the False King Allant, Old King Doran will be in the Mausoleum. You need the Mausoleum Key, which Ostrava gives you in 1-4 before he dies (or you can kill him earlier for it). Approach Doran and attempt to take the sword behind him. He will attack. You don't need to kill him; just get his HP low enough (around 25-30%) and he will yield, allowing you to take the sword.
  • Soulbrandt:
    • Location: Nexus (ending).
    • How to get: This sword is obtained from King Allant after defeating him as the final boss of the game.

Trophy of the Ultimate Weapon (Obtain the North Regalia)

This trophy requires you to obtain the North Regalia.

  • Location: Nexus (Blacksmith Ed).
