Weapon Scaling & Infusion Guide

Understanding weapon scaling and infusion is fundamental to maximizing your damage output in Demon's Souls. Weapons in Boletaria are not static; their effectiveness can be dramatically altered through upgrades and infusions, which tie their damage to your character's stats.

Weapon Scaling:

Most weapons have a scaling rating for Strength, Dexterity, Magic, and Faith. This rating is represented by letters: S (best), A, B, C, D, E (worst), and N (no scaling). A weapon with an 'A' scaling in Dexterity, for example, will gain significantly more bonus damage from your Dexterity stat than a weapon with a 'D' scaling in the same attribute. Prioritizing weapons that scale well with your highest stats is crucial for building an effective character.

For instance, a weapon like the Uchigatana boasts excellent Dexterity scaling, making it a prime choice for Dexterity-focused builds. Conversely, a weapon such as the Great Axe heavily relies on Strength scaling.

Weapon Infusion:

Infusion allows you to alter a weapon's base damage and its scaling properties. This is done by Blacksmith Ed in the Nexus. Each infusion type has specific requirements and effects:

  • Crushing: Increases Strength scaling significantly, often at the cost of Dexterity scaling. Best for pure Strength builds. Requires Greystone.
  • Sharp: Increases Dexterity scaling, often at the cost of Strength scaling. Ideal for Dexterity builds. Requires Blade Stone.
  • Moon: Adds Magic damage and increases Magic scaling. Reduces physical damage and scaling. Requires Moonstone.
  • Blessed: Adds Magic damage and increases Faith scaling. Also provides slow HP regeneration. Reduces physical damage and scaling. Requires Faintstone.
  • Dragon: Adds Fire damage and removes all stat scaling. Deals consistent fire damage regardless of your stats. Requires Dragonstone.
  • Dark: Adds Dark damage and increases Dark scaling. This infusion is not present in the original Demon's Souls.

Infusion Materials:

Each infusion requires a specific type of Stone, found throughout the various Archstones. For example, to infuse a weapon with the Crushing property, you will need Greystone, which is primarily found in the Stonefang Tunnel (World 2). The number of upgrade slots available for infusion varies by weapon.

Example Build Synergy:

A player investing heavily in Dexterity would seek out a weapon with high base Dexterity scaling, like the Kilij, and then potentially infuse it with a Sharp Stone to further enhance its Dexterity scaling. If You also has a high Magic stat, a Moon-infused weapon might be considered, though this often sacrifices raw physical damage.

Important Considerations:

  • Some weapons cannot be infused (e.g., boss soul weapons).
  • Infusing a weapon resets its upgrade level.
  • The base damage of a weapon is also a critical factor, even with excellent scaling.
