NPCs & Side Quests
The world of Demon's Souls is populated by a cast of memorable characters, each with their own stories, motivations, and potential quests. Engaging with these NPCs can lead to valuable rewards, unique items, and a deeper understanding of the game's lore. This section outlines the key NPCs and their associated side quests.
The Maiden in Black is your primary contact in The Nexus, serving as your guide and the one who allows you to level up your character. Her questline is tied to the main narrative and culminates in a critical choice at the game's end.
Other notable NPCs include Saint Urbain, a devout follower of miracles; Sage Freke, a powerful sorcerer; and Yuria, his apprentice. Each of these characters can teach you new spells or miracles, provided you meet their requirements and progress their storylines.
- Ostrava, of Boletaria: A prince seeking to reclaim his kingdom. His quest involves rescuing him from various predicaments across World 1 and can lead to the Mausoleum Key and unique dialogue.
- Saint Urbain: Found in the Prison of Hope, he seeks to confront the Old One. Helping him can unlock powerful miracles.
- Sage Freke: A master sorcerer in The Nexus. He teaches advanced sorceries and offers insights into magic.
- Yuria: Freke's apprentice, also in The Nexus. She teaches sorceries and has her own quest progression.
- Biorr, of the Twin Fangs: A loyal knight found in the Prison of Hope. He can assist in certain boss fights if freed.
- Patches, the Hyena: A treacherous character who may betray you but also offers unique items.
Completing NPC side quests often requires specific items, actions, or World Tendency conditions. For example, rescuing Biorr involves finding him in the Prison of Hope and then speaking to him in his cell. Ostrava's quest requires finding him in multiple locations and intervening when he is in danger.
Be aware that some NPCs can be hostile or may betray you. Always approach interactions with caution, and consider the consequences of your actions, especially regarding World Tendency.
