Unique Weapon & Spell Infusion Guide
Demon's Souls offers a deep crafting system that allows players to imbue their weapons with elemental properties and unique effects, significantly altering their damage output and utility. This process involves using Boss Souls and specific Upgrade Materials at unique blacksmiths, most notably the Blacksmith Ed, the Master Smith in the Smithing Grounds (2-2).
Unique Weapons are created by trading specific Boss Souls to Ed. For example, the Soul of the Tower Knight can be traded for the Knight's Shield, a powerful shield with excellent stability. The Soul of the Dragon God can be used to forge the Dragon Bone Smasher, a colossal hammer with immense physical damage and a Strength requirement of 50. These weapons often possess innate magical or elemental damage, or unique weapon arts, making them highly sought after.
Infusion, on the other hand, allows you to alter standard weapons by adding elemental damage or status effects. This requires specific Moonlightstone for magical infusion, Sharpstone for crescent infusion (which scales with Magic), Darkmoonstone for darkmoon infusion (which scales with Magic and Luck), and Greystone for crushing infusion (which scales with Strength). For example, infusing a weapon with Moonlightstone will add Magic damage and cause it to scale with your Magic stat. A Crescent Falchion +1, found in the Catacombs (4-2), adds Magic damage and scales with Magic, making it an excellent early-game weapon for magic-focused builds.
Spells and Miracles are also a crucial part of character progression. Spells are learned by finding Tomes and giving them to the Sorcerer's Apprentice Yuria in the Inner Ward (1-3). Miracles are learned by finding Talismans and giving them to Saint Urbain in the Latria (3-2). The effectiveness of spells and miracles scales with the player's Magic or Faith stats, respectively. For instance, the devastating spell Soul Ray requires a significant Magic investment to reach its full potential, while the healing miracle Heal is essential for survivability.
When infusing weapons, consider your character's stat distribution. A weapon infused with Crescent or Moon will benefit greatly from high Magic, while a Crushing weapon excels with high Strength. The Dragon Bone Smasher, while a unique weapon, also benefits from high Strength, showcasing how different weapon types and infusion paths cater to distinct build archetypes. Experimenting with different infusions on various weapon bases is key to discovering powerful combinations tailored to your playstyle.
