Character Tendency is a hidden mechanic in Demon's Souls that tracks your alment towards Pure White or Pure Black. This tendency influences various aspects of the game, including NPC behavior, enemy types, and the appearance of unique items and events. Manipulating it is key to unlocking certain content and achieving specific endings.

Your Character Tendency shifts based on your actions. Killing NPCs, especially friendly ones, pushes your tendency towards Black. Conversely, defeating bosses and Black Phantoms (hostile NPC invaders) pushes your tendency towards White. The most significant shifts occur when you defeat a boss in its original world state (towards White) or when you defeat a Black Phantom in its world (towards White). Dying in human form in a world also contributes to World Tendency shifting towards Black, which can indirectly affect Character Tendency if it leads to Black Phantoms spawning.

To achieve Pure White Character Tendency, you generally need to defeat a series of bosses and potentially specific Black Phantoms without killing any friendly NPCs. The easiest way to farm White Tendency is by defeating bosses and then returning to the Nexus, allowing the game to register the kill and shift your tendency. For Pure Black Character Tendency, you'll need to kill friendly NPCs. This is a risky endeavor, as it permanently locks you out of their quests and services. Some players resort to killing themselves repeatedly in the Nexus to shift World Tendency towards Black, which can then lead to Black Phantom NPCs spawning in the worlds, offering a way to gain Black Tendency through combat.

Achieving Pure White Tendency:
