Chapter 3: The Traveler's Call
Chapter 3, "The Traveler's Call," marks a pivotal moment in the expansion, drawing Guardians back to the Last City for a direct confrontation with a new, enigmatic threat. The Traveler itself has begun to emit a powerful, resonant signal, drawing the attention of both allies and enemies. This signal is causing unusual phenomena within the City, including localized temporal distortions and surges of unknown energy. Your initial objective is to investigate the source of these disturbances within the City's Hangar Bay, where a strange, crystalline structure has begun to grow, pulsing with a light that seems to defy conventional understanding.
As you approach the crystalline structure, you will be ambushed by a new faction of enemies: the 'Chrono-Phantoms.' These beings appear as distorted, shimmering figures, capable of phasing through cover and attacking with rapid, temporal-disrupting strikes. They can also create 'Time Echoes' of themselves, which attack independently for a short duration. You must clear the Hangar Bay of 20 Chrono-Phantoms, including 4 'Chrono-Guardians,' elite units that can project a temporal shield, deflecting incoming projectiles for 5 seconds. To bypass this shield, Guardians must utilize abilities that deal sustained damage or apply debuffs, such as the Hunter's 'Tether' or the Warlock's 'Well of Radiance.'
Following the engagement, the crystalline structure will fully activate, revealing itself as a conduit for a powerful entity known as 'The Chronosmith.' This being is not inherently hostile but seeks to understand and manipulate the flow of time. The Chronosmith will initiate a dialogue, explaining its purpose and the danger posed by a rogue element within its own kind. To prove your worth and gain its trust, you must complete a series of 'Temporal Puzzles' within the Hangar Bay. These puzzles involve manipulating time-locked objects and redirecting energy flows. For example, one puzzle requires you to activate three 'Temporal Relays' in a specific sequence, with each relay only accessible during a brief window of temporal stability. Successfully completing these puzzles will earn you the 'Chronosmith's Boon,' a temporary buff that increases your ability regeneration by 15% for 10 minutes. The chapter concludes with The Chronosmith offering a crucial piece of information about the expansion's overarching antagonist and unlocking a new questline that delves deeper into the nature of time itself within the Destiny universe.
