Weapon Crafting Deep Dive

Weapon crafting in Destiny 2, introduced with The Witch Queen expansion, allows players to forge their own weapons with specific perks and desired stats. This system provides a powerful avenue for obtaining perfectly rolled weapons, bypassing the RNG inherent in random drops. The process involves acquiring weapon patterns, leveling up crafted weapons, and then reshaping them with new perk combinations.

Acquiring Weapon Patterns:

  • Deepsight Resonance: The primary method for unlocking weapon patterns is by acquiring weapons with "Deepsight Resonance." These weapons have a red border around their icon and can be "attuned" by using them in combat or dismantling them. Once attuned, the pattern is unlocked.
  • Campaigns and Quests: Certain story missions and quests, particularly those related to The Witch Queen and subsequent expansions, reward specific weapon patterns upon completion.
  • Activities: Specific activities, such as the Wellspring on Savathûn's Throne World or certain seasonal activities, have a chance to drop weapons with Deepsight Resonance, contributing to pattern unlocks.

Leveling and Reshaping:

  1. Weapon Level: Once a weapon pattern is unlocked, you can craft the base version of the weapon at The Enclave on Mars. Each crafted weapon has its own experience level. Using the weapon in combat, completing activities with it equipped, and getting final blows all contribute to its level.
  2. Unlocking Perks: As your crafted weapon gains levels, it unlocks new perk options in both the left (basic) and right (enhanced) columns. Enhanced perks offer more potent versions of standard perks, often with increased stats or improved functionality.
  3. Reshaping: At The Enclave, you can "reshape" your crafted weapon. This allows you to select any unlocked perk from the available columns, effectively customizing the weapon's roll. You can change perks as many times as you wish, provided you have the necessary materials.

Materials for Crafting:

  • Glimmer: The primary currency used for crafting and reshaping.
  • Enhancement Cores: Used for unlocking enhanced perks.
  • Ascendant Alloys: A rarer material required for unlocking enhanced perks in the final column of a weapon.
  • Resonant Elements: Acquired by dismantling weapons with Deepsight Resonance. These are used to unlock patterns and craft weapons.

Weapon crafting offers a rewarding progression system that empowers players to tailor their arsenal to their specific needs and preferences, making it a cornerstone of endgame Destiny 2.
