Rift: Master the Flow of Power

Rift is a unique PvP mode in Destiny 2 where teams battle to capture and deposit an Energy Rift into the enemy's Rift. This objective-based mode emphasizes teamwork, strategic positioning, and the effective use of abilities to control the battlefield and secure victory. Mastering Rift requires understanding its core mechanics and adapting your playstyle to the ebb and flow of the match.

The primary objective in Rift is to capture the central Energy Rift and carry it to the opposing team's Rift. You carrying the Rift becomes a beacon, vulnerable but also empowered. While carrying the Rift, you gain increased movement speed and a powerful melee attack, but you cannot use your primary or special weapons. Your Super ability is also disabled. The goal is to reach the enemy Rift and deposit the energy, scoring a point for your team. The first team to reach the score limit, typically 100 points, wins the match.

Key Mechanics and Strategies

  • Capturing the Rift: Stand within the glowing area of the central Rift for a short duration to capture it. Once captured, You carrying it is marked for all players on the map.
  • Carrying the Rift: As the Rift Carrier, your priority is survival and reaching the enemy Rift. Use your empowered melee to defend yourself and clear pathways. Communicate with your team to ensure they provide cover and escort you.
  • Defending Your Rift: When the enemy has the Rift, your team must coordinate to intercept the carrier. use area-of-effect abilities, heavy weapons, and coordinated pushes to deny them the score.
  • Teamwork is Crucial: Rift is not a solo mode. Effective communication and coordinated pushes are essential. Designate players to escort the Rift Carrier, others to defend, and some to flank or control key areas.
  • Ability Usage: Supers and abilities are vital. Use area denial abilities like Ward of Dawn or Well of Radiance to protect your Rift Carrier or to lock down areas. Offensive Supers can be used to clear out enemy defenders or to intercept the enemy carrier.

Loadout Considerations

Your loadout should complement your role. For Rift Carriers, weapons that offer quick burst damage or mobility can be beneficial for self-defense. For escorts and defenders, consider weapons with good crowd control or long-range capabilities. Exotic armor that enhances survivability or ability regeneration can also be highly effective.

Map Awareness

Understanding the map layout is paramount. Identify key chokepoints, flanking routes, and defensive positions. Knowing where the enemy is likely to push from and where your team can best defend will significantly increase your chances of success.
