The Vanguard
The Vanguard represents the leadership of the Guardians and oversees much of the defense of the Last City. Its three main members offer distinct services.
- Commander Zavala (Titan): Offers Vanguard Ops (Strikes) bounties, Vanguard reputation, and the ability to focus Vanguard engrams. His services are tied to the PvE Strike playlist.
- Ikora Rey (Warlock): Offers powerful gear through her weekly challenges and is the source for subclass ability upgrades and meditations.
- Lord Shaxx (Titan): Oversees the Crucible (PvP). He offers Crucible bounties, Crucible reputation, and the ability to focus Crucible engrams.
The Cryptarch

Xûr, Agent of the Nine
Xûr is a mysterious vendor who appears every weekend (from Friday reset to Tuesday reset) in a rotating location. He sells Exotic weapons and armor, often with desirable rolls, and offers Legendary gear.
- Currency: Xûr accepts Legendary Shards and Exotic Cipher for his wares.
- Location: His location changes weekly (e.g., Nessus, EDZ, Tower).
- Exotic Engram: He sells an Exotic Engram that guarantees an Exotic you don't already own (or a random one if you own all).
