Exotic items are the pinnacle of Destiny's gear, offering unique perks and often defining entire playstyles. Exotic weapons and armor are powerful, but their true potential is unlocked through their Masterwork Catalysts.
Exotic Items:
- Unique Perks: Each Exotic has one or more unique perks that set it apart from legendary gear. These perks can range from enhanced damage to unique ability interactions.
- One Exotic Limit: You can only equip one Exotic weapon and one Exotic armor piece at a time. Choose wisely to maximize synergy with your build.
- Acquisition: Exotics can be acquired through various means: random drops, Xur's weekly inventory, Exotic Engrams, specific Exotic Quests, and Raid/Dungeon completions.
Masterwork Catalysts:
- Enhance Exotics: Catalysts are special items that, once acquired and completed, upgrade an Exotic weapon to Masterwork status.
- Bonus Perks: Masterworking an Exotic weapon typically grants a stat boost (e.g., increased range, stability) and/or an additional perk (e.g., auto-loading holster, orb generation on multikills).
- Acquisition: Catalysts are acquired through specific activities (Strikes, Crucible, Gambit, Lost Sectors, Raids) or sometimes as random world drops.
- Completion: To complete a Catalyst, you usually need to achieve a certain number of kills with the associated Exotic weapon, sometimes with specific conditions.
Prioritize acquiring and completing Catalysts for your favorite and most powerful Exotic weapons, as the benefits are substantial. Many Catalysts significantly improve the weapon's utility and damage output.
