Power Level Tiers:

  • Soft Cap: All drops (blue, legendary, exotic) will increase your Power Level until you reach the soft cap. Focus on any activity.
  • Powerful Cap: Only 'Powerful' gear drops will increase your Power Level beyond the soft cap. These are typically rewarded from weekly challenges (e.g., 3 Strikes, 3 Crucible matches, Gambit matches, Hawthorne's clan engram).
  • Pinnacle Cap: Only 'Pinnacle' gear drops will increase your Power Level beyond the powerful cap. These are the rarest and most significant upgrades, found in specific endgame activities (e.g., 100k Nightfalls, Raids, Trials of Osiris, Dungeon completions).

Efficient Leveling Strategy:

  1. Reach Soft Cap: Play through the main campaign, complete side quests, and engage in any activity until you hit the soft cap.
  2. Prioritize Powerful Gear: Once at the soft cap, focus on completing all available 'Powerful Gear' challenges across all your characters.
  3. Tackle Pinnacle Gear: After exhausting your Powerful rewards, move on to 'Pinnacle Gear' activities. These are the slowest but most impactful gains.
  4. Use Multiple Characters: If you have multiple characters of the same class, you can transfer high-Power weapons to boost your other characters faster. Even different classes benefit from shared high-Power weapons.
