Magichange & Fusions

Magichange and Fusions are powerful mechanics in Disgaea 6 that allow you to temporarily transform monsters into weapons or combine units for devastating attacks. Mastering these techniques is crucial for tackling higher-difficulty content, especially in the Carnage Dimension.

Magichange: Monster as a Weapon

Magichange allows a monster unit to transform into a weapon for an adjacent humanoid unit. This grants the humanoid unit the monster's stats, Evilities, and a unique Magichange skill. It's a fantastic way to boost a humanoid's power or utilize a monster's unique abilities in a different combat role.

How to Magichange

Positioning: Place a monster unit directly adjacent (up, down, left, or right) to a humanoid unit on the battlefield.
Initiate: Select the humanoid unit. In their action menu, choose the "Magichange" option.
Select Monster: A list of adjacent monsters eligible for Magichange will appear. Select the desired monster.
Transformation: The monster will transform into a weapon, and the humanoid will equip it. The Magichange lasts for a set number of turns (typically 2-3 turns, depending on the monster and any relevant Evilities).

Magichange Benefits & Strategies

Stat Boost: The humanoid gains a significant portion of the monster's stats, making even a weak humanoid surprisingly strong. This is particularly effective with high-level monsters.
Evility Transfer: The humanoid temporarily gains all of the monster's equipped Evilities. This opens up incredible strategic possibilities, such as giving a high-damage attacker the Mana Scavenger Evility from a Prinny to quickly farm Mana, or the Overlimit Evility from a Dragon to extend their attack range.
Magichange Skill: Each monster type has a unique Magichange skill that the humanoid can use. For example, a Prinny Magichange often grants a powerful explosion skill, while a Dragon might offer a wide-area breath attack. Experiment to find skills that complement your humanoid's playstyle.
Dual Magichange: Certain humanoid classes, like the Warrior or Valkyrie, can equip two weapons. This allows them to perform a "Dual Magichange," equipping two monsters simultaneously for even greater stat boosts and two Magichange skills. This is incredibly powerful for maximizing damage output.
Magichange Extension: The Magichange Lover Evility (available from various sources, including the Slumber Cat monster) can extend the duration of Magichange by 1 turn. Stacking multiple instances of this Evility can make Magichange last significantly longer.
Weapon Mastery: While Magichanged, the humanoid gains weapon mastery for the monster's weapon type (e.g., a Prinny becomes a Sword, a Dragon becomes an Axe). This can be used to level up weapon proficiencies for specific characters.

Fusions: Combining Monsters

Fusions allow two monster units of the same type to combine into a single, larger, and more powerful monster. This new monster gains increased stats and often new, stronger skills. Fusions are excellent for creating super-tanks or single-target damage dealers.

How to Fuse

Positioning: Place two monster units of the exact same type (e.g., two Prinnies, two Zombies) directly adjacent to each other on the battlefield.
Initiate: Select one of the monster units. In their action menu, choose the "Fusion" option.
Select Partner: The adjacent monster of the same type will be highlighted. Select it to confirm the fusion.
Transformation: The two monsters will combine into a single, larger monster with enhanced stats and potentially new skills. The fused monster will typically occupy a 2x2 or 3x3 tile area.

Fusion Benefits & Strategies

Massive Stat Boost: Fused monsters receive a substantial increase to all their stats, making them incredibly resilient and hard-hitting. This is particularly useful for creating a frontline tank that can absorb massive damage.
New Skills: Fused monsters often gain access to new, more powerful versions of their existing skills or entirely new skills with larger areas of effect or higher damage multipliers. For example, a fused Zombie might gain a stronger, wider-range poison attack.
Area of Effect: Fused monsters take up more space on the map (2x2 or 3x3 tiles). While this can sometimes be a hindrance in tight spaces, it also means they can potentially block more enemy movement or be targeted by more adjacent enemies, making them excellent decoys.
Fusion & Magichange Synergy: A fused monster can still be Magichanged! This creates an incredibly powerful weapon for a humanoid, combining the massive stats of a fused monster with the Evility and skill transfer of Magichange. Imagine a humanoid wielding a fused, super-strong Dragon as an Axe!
Overlord's Wrath: Certain monster types, like the Dragon, have a unique Evility called Overlord's Wrath which significantly boosts their stats when fused. Prioritize these monsters for fusion if you want maximum power.
Dimension Guide (Post-Game): In the post-game, particularly in the Carnage Dimension, Fusions become almost mandatory for certain challenges. The sheer stat increase is often necessary to survive and deal damage against the incredibly powerful enemies.

Advanced Tips for Both

Evility Management: Always consider the Evilities of the monsters you're using for Magichange or Fusion. Synergize them with your humanoid's Evilities or the role of your fused monster.
Leveling: Leveling up monsters before Magichanging or Fusing them will result in a stronger temporary weapon or fused monster. Use the Juice Bar to quickly power up your monster units.
Item World: In the Item World, Magichange and Fusion can be game-changers. Use Magichange to give your Item World runner powerful monster Evilities (like Big Eye from a Slumber Cat for increased range) or use Fusions to create a super-tank to clear tough floors.
Skill Transfer: Remember that when a monster Magichanges, its skills are not directly transferred, but a unique Magichange skill is granted. When monsters fuse, they retain and often upgrade their existing skills.
Experimentation: The best way to learn these mechanics is to experiment! Try different monster types, different humanoid partners, and various Evility combinations to find what works best for your playstyle and current challenges.
