Skill Shop
The Skill Shop is your one-stop destination for expanding your characters' offensive and defensive capabilities beyond what they naturally learn through leveling. Located in the hub world, it's easily accessible and a crucial component of character customization and optimization in Disgaea 6. Here, you can purchase new skills, upgrade existing ones, and acquire Evilities that significantly impact your units' performance in battle.
Accessing the Skill Shop
To access the Skill Shop, simply navigate to the central area of the Dark Assembly hub. The Skill Shop NPC, a friendly but somewhat eccentric Prinny, will be waiting to assist you. Interact with them to open the shop menu.
Skill Shop Offerings
The Skill Shop provides several key services:
- Learn Skills: This is where you acquire new offensive and support skills for your characters. These skills are often tied to weapon mastery or character classes. For instance, a Warrior can learn various sword techniques, while a Witch can learn elemental magic spells.
- Upgrade Skills: Existing skills can be upgraded to increase their power, range, or area of effect. Upgrading skills is essential for keeping your units competitive as you progress through the game and face tougher enemies.
- Learn Evilities: Evilities are passive abilities that provide various buffs, debuffs, or unique effects. Unlike Unique Evilities, which are character-specific or class-bound, many Common Evilities can be learned by any character from the Skill Shop. These are crucial for building specialized units and optimizing your team composition.
Currencies Used
There are two primary currencies you'll be spending at the Skill Shop:
- HL (Hell): The standard currency of the Netherworld, used for purchasing most skills and Evilities. You earn HL by defeating enemies, selling items, and completing quests.
- Mana: A unique resource earned by characters through battle. Mana is primarily used for upgrading skills and for certain advanced Evility purchases. Each character accumulates their own Mana, so you'll need to use the character you want to upgrade to access their Mana pool.
Strategic Skill Acquisition
When deciding what to purchase at the Skill Shop, consider the following strategies:
- Early Game Focus: In the early stages, prioritize acquiring basic offensive skills for your main damage dealers and essential healing/support skills for your Clergy. Don't forget area-of-effect (AoE) skills like Mega Fire or Winged Slayer to clear groups of enemies efficiently.
- Weapon Mastery: Skills are often linked to weapon mastery. If you plan for a character to specialize in a particular weapon type (e.g., Swords, Spears, Bows), invest in their corresponding weapon skills.
- Evility Synergy: Pay close attention to Evilities. Some Evilities are incredibly powerful and can define a character's role. For example, the Magic Moderation Evility (acquired by Witches) reduces SP consumption for specials by 50%, making magic users much more efficient. Another example is Wild Cry (Warrior class), which increases stats by 10% per adjacent enemy unit, perfect for front-line attackers. Look for Evilities that complement your characters' Unique Evilities and overall strategy.
- Mana Management: Mana is a finite resource for each character. Decide which skills are most important to upgrade first. Often, upgrading your primary offensive skills will yield the most immediate benefits.
- Reincarnation Benefits: After reincarnating, characters retain their learned skills and Evilities. This means you can strategically teach skills and Evilities to lower-tier classes, reincarnate them into higher tiers, and carry over those abilities, creating incredibly versatile units.
Recommended Early Evilities to Consider
- Mana Scavenger: Increases Mana gain, which is invaluable for upgrading skills faster.
- Aggression: Boosts attack power, a solid choice for any damage dealer.
- Defensive Stance: Increases defense, useful for tanks or characters who frequently take hits.
- Patience: Increases stats when not moving, great for ranged attackers or mages who stay in position.
Regularly check the Skill Shop as you progress through the story and unlock new character classes. New skills and Evilities will become available, offering more options to fine-tune your squad and overcome the challenges of the Netherworld.
