3-1: Melodia's Debut
Objective: Defeat all enemies.
Welcome to Stage 3-1, "Melodia's Debut," where you'll be introduced to the flamboyant and powerful Melodia as a guest character. This stage serves as an excellent tutorial for utilizing guest units and adapting to varied enemy types and terrain. Expect a mix of monster units, some with elemental resistances, and strategically placed elevated platforms that demand clever use of movement and throwing mechanics.
Guest Unit Spotlight: Melodia
Melodia joins your party as a guest unit for this stage, bringing a unique set of skills that can significantly impact the battle. Understanding her abilities is key to a smooth victory.
- Key Skills for this Stage:
- Lovely Song (Special Skill): Melodia's signature skill. This area-of-effect (AoE) attack deals moderate damage to enemies within its range and, crucially, has a chance to inflict the "Charmed" status ailment. Charmed enemies will attack their allies, turning the tide of battle in your favor. Prioritize using this skill when multiple enemies are clustered together.
- Heart Shot (Special Skill): A single-target attack that deals good damage. Use this to finish off weakened enemies or focus down a particularly troublesome foe.
- Magical Melody (Evility): Increases her own INT and RES. This makes her magical attacks stronger and her defenses against magic more robust, allowing her to stand on the front lines if necessary.
- Strategic Use:
- Crowd Control: Position Melodia to hit as many enemies as possible with Lovely Song. Charmed enemies can cause significant chaos among their ranks, reducing the number of threats you need to deal with directly.
- Finisher: Use Heart Shot to eliminate high-priority targets or enemies that resist your other units' attacks.
- Support: While primarily an attacker, her ability to charm enemies acts as a form of crowd control, indirectly supporting your other units by reducing incoming damage.
Enemy Intel & Elemental Properties
This stage features a diverse array of monster units. Knowing their types and elemental properties will allow you to exploit their weaknesses and mitigate their strengths.
| Enemy Type | Common Elemental Weakness | Common Elemental Resistance | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slumber Cat | Fire | Wind | Often found in groups. Can inflict Sleep. Prioritize with Fire-based attacks. |
| Pudding | Wind | Fire | High DEF, but low RES. Vulnerable to Wind magic. Can absorb some damage. |
| Prinny | None (Explodes on defeat) | None | Standard Prinny. Be mindful of their explosion upon defeat, which deals damage to adjacent units. Use ranged attacks or throw them away from your party. |
| Zombie | Fire | Ice | Slow but durable. Can inflict Poison. Fire magic is highly effective. |
General Tip: If you have a Mage in your party, use their elemental spells (Fire, Ice, Wind) to target enemy weaknesses. Zed's unique "Super Reincarnation" ability can also grant him elemental affinities, so check his current stats if you've been reincarnating him.
Terrain & Movement Strategies
The map features several elevated platforms that house enemies, making direct engagement difficult for ground-bound units. This is where strategic use of high jump and throwing units becomes crucial.
- High Jump Units:
- Characters with naturally high jump stats (e.g., Winged Warrior, some monster units) can directly access higher platforms. Check your units' "Jump" stat in their status screen.
- Example: If you have a Winged Warrior, move them to the base of a high platform and use their superior jump to reach the enemies immediately.
- Throwing Units:
- Any unit can throw another unit, including enemies. This is invaluable for reaching inaccessible areas or isolating threats.
- Example 1 (Reaching High Ground): Position a strong melee unit (like Zed) next to a unit with good throwing range. Have the thrower pick up Zed and throw him onto an elevated platform where enemies are waiting. Zed can then clear the platform.
- Example 2 (Isolating Enemies): If a particularly annoying enemy is on a high platform, you can throw one of your own units up there to engage them, or even throw an enemy off the platform to bring them within range of your ground units.
- Example 3 (Creating Bridges): In some Disgaea maps, you can stack units to create a human ladder. While less critical on this specific map, it's a good technique to remember for future stages.
- Positioning:
- Avoid clumping your units too closely, especially when facing Prinnies (due to their explosion) or enemies with AoE attacks.
- Use the elevated terrain to your advantage. Placing ranged attackers (Archers, Mages) on higher ground gives them a damage bonus and often keeps them out of direct melee range.
Step-by-Step Walkthrough

- Initial Deployment: Deploy your strongest melee units (Zed, Cerberus) and a ranged attacker (Mage, Archer) along with Melodia. Consider bringing a unit with decent throwing range if you don't have high-jump characters.
- Engage Ground Units: The initial enemies on the lower ground are typically Slumber Cats and Prinnies.
- Use Zed's powerful attacks to quickly dispatch the Slumber Cats, exploiting their Fire weakness if possible.
- For Prinnies, either use ranged attacks to defeat them from a safe distance or throw them away from your party before they explode.
- Melodia can use Lovely Song here if multiple enemies are within range to try and Charm them.
- Addressing Elevated Threats: There will be Puddings and Zombies on elevated platforms.
- Option A (Throwing): Have a unit with good throwing range pick up Zed or another strong melee attacker and throw them onto the platform. Once on the platform, your unit can engage the enemies directly.
- Option B (High Jump): If you have a high-jump unit, simply move them to the base of the platform and jump up to engage.
- Option C (Ranged Attacks): Your Mage or Archer can target enemies on high platforms from below. Prioritize Puddings with Wind magic and Zombies with Fire magic.
- Melodia's Role: If Melodia can reach an elevated platform, her Lovely Song can be devastating against clustered enemies there. Otherwise, use Heart Shot from below if she has range.
- Consolidate and Clear: Once the initial threats are dealt with, focus on any remaining enemies. Use team attacks to maximize damage and experience gain. Ensure no units are left isolated, as enemies can quickly gang up on them.
- Victory: Defeat all remaining enemies to clear the stage.
Rewards
- First Clear Bonus: 1x Spirit Herb (Increases SP by 10)
- Common Drops:
- Small amounts of HL (money)
- Basic healing items (e.g., Healing Herb)
- Low-tier equipment (e.g., Wooden Sword, Leather Armor)
Common Pitfalls & Tips
- Prinny Explosions: Always be aware of Prinnies. Their explosion can deal significant damage to adjacent units, including your own. Plan your attacks to avoid being caught in the blast radius.
- Elemental Resistances: Don't blindly use the same attack on every enemy. If an attack deals low damage, check the enemy's elemental resistances and switch to a different element or physical attack.
- Over-reliance on Melodia: While powerful, Melodia is a guest unit and will leave after this stage. Don't neglect developing your core party members.
- Ignoring Elevated Terrain: Trying to fight all enemies from the ground will be inefficient and leave your units vulnerable. Actively use throwing and high-jump mechanics.
By following these strategies and understanding the unique aspects of Melodia and the stage layout, you'll successfully navigate "Melodia's Debut" and continue your journey through Disgaea 6!
