Understanding Rarity Values

Every item in Disgaea 6 has a rarity value, ranging from 0 (Common) to 100 (Legendary). The rarity is displayed on the item's information screen. While lower rarity items are plentiful, your ultimate goal for stat optimization is to acquire and equip items with high, matching rarity values.

Common (0-29): Easily found, but offer minimal Rarity Bonus.
Rare (30-59): A good stepping stone, providing a noticeable boost.
Legendary (60-99): The most sought-after, offering significant stat increases.
Unique (100): Special items, often with fixed stats and the highest rarity.

Calculating the Rarity Bonus

The Rarity Bonus is calculated based on the sum of the rarity values of all equipped items on a character. The bonus is applied to the base stats of the item itself, not the character's total stats. The formula for the Rarity Bonus is as follows:

Rarity Bonus = (Sum of Equipped Item Rarities / 100) * Item's Base Stats

For example, if you have three items equipped with rarities of 90, 95, and 100, the sum is 285. This sum is then divided by 100 (2.85) and multiplied by the base stats of each item to determine the bonus. This means that equipping items with higher rarity values will lead to a much larger stat increase.

Strategies for Maximizing Rarity Bonus

Target Legendary and Unique Items: Your primary focus should be on acquiring items with rarity values of 60 or higher. These items provide the most substantial Rarity Bonus.
Match Rarity Values: While any matching rarity contributes, the bonus is maximized when all equipped items have the exact same rarity number. For instance, equipping three items all with a rarity of 100 will yield a far greater bonus than three items with rarities of 98, 99, and 100, even though the sum is similar.
Item World Exploration: The Item World is your best friend for finding high-rarity items.
- Item Gods and Item Generals: These powerful enemies found on floors 10, 20, 30, etc., often carry high-rarity equipment. Defeating them is a prime way to obtain powerful gear.
- Mystery Rooms: Keep an eye out for Mystery Rooms, as they can sometimes contain chests with rare or legendary items.
- Thieving: Utilize characters with high HIT and the "Hand" items (e.g., Thief's Hand, Bandit's Hand) to steal high-rarity equipment directly from Item World enemies. This is particularly effective against Item Generals and Item Gods.
Item Duplication (Post-Game): Once you unlock the Item Duplication feature in the post-game, you can replicate high-rarity items, making it easier to equip multiple characters with perfectly matched gear.
Rarity-Boosting Innocents: Certain Innocents, like the Collector, can increase the rarity of an item. While not as impactful as finding natural high-rarity items, they can be useful for fine-tuning.
