Tips and Tricks
Welcome, Overlord-in-training! Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny offers a vast, often overwhelming, array of systems designed to push your characters to absurd power levels. This section will guide you through some essential strategies and mechanics to optimize your grind and dominate the Netherworld.
Early Game Optimization: Setting the Foundation
Before you even think about hitting quadrillions of damage, establishing a solid early game routine is crucial. Focus on efficiency and unlocking key features.
1. Maximize EXP Gain from the Start
- Cheat Shop Settings: As soon as the Cheat Shop is available (after clearing Chapter 1, Stage 1-2), immediately set EXP gain to 1000% and HL gain to 0%. You'll be swimming in HL later, but early EXP is paramount.
- Bonus Gauge Exploitation: Always aim to fill the Bonus Gauge to its maximum (Level 9) on every map. This provides invaluable bonus items, including rare equipment and stat-boosting extracts. Use Geo Chains, throwing enemies onto Geo Panels, and performing team attacks.
- Early Grinding Spot: Chapter 1, Stage 1-4 "The Overlord's Tower" is an excellent early grinding map. The layout allows for easy Geo Chain creation, and the enemies are manageable. Once you unlock the Dark Assembly, pass the "Stronger Enemies" bill to increase EXP.
2. Unlock and Utilize the Juice Bar
The Juice Bar is your best friend for quickly boosting character stats without traditional grinding. It becomes available after clearing Chapter 2, Stage 2-2.
- Extract Farming: The primary use of the Juice Bar is consuming Extracts. These are obtained by defeating enemies in the Item World or by using the "Extract" option at the Hospital after healing. Focus on extracting from high-level enemies or those with high base stats.
- Stat Boosting: Prioritize boosting your main attacker's ATK (or INT for magic users) and SPD. SPD determines turn order, which is critical.
- Mana Consumption: Don't be afraid to spend Mana at the Juice Bar to gain EXP, HL, or even Class Proficiency. This is especially useful for characters you don't actively deploy in battle but want to keep somewhat relevant.
3. Class Proficiency and Reincarnation
These two systems are intertwined and essential for long-term character growth.
- Class Mastery: Each character has Class Proficiency levels. Mastering classes grants permanent stat bonuses and unlocks new Evilities. Focus on mastering generic classes like "Warrior" or "Mage" early on for their foundational stat boosts.
- Reincarnation: Available after clearing Chapter 2, Stage 2-5, Reincarnation resets a character's level to 1 but grants bonus stats based on their previous level and mastered classes. Reincarnate frequently, especially after mastering a few classes, to accumulate significant base stats.
- Super Reincarnation: Later in the game, you'll unlock Super Reincarnation, which offers even greater stat gains. Save your Super Reincarnations for your main party once they've mastered a good number of classes and have high base stats from regular reincarnations.
Mid-Game Progression: Deepening Your Power
As you progress through the story, new mechanics will become available. Integrate them into your strategy.
1. Item World Diving
The Item World (unlocked after Chapter 3, Stage 3-2) is where true power lies. Every item has its own randomly generated dungeon, and clearing floors strengthens the item.
- Item Rarity: Prioritize diving into Rare and Legendary items. These have more floors and higher potential for stat growth.
- Innocents: The Item World is home to Innocents, which are passive buffs embedded in items. Subdue them to increase their effectiveness and move them between items. Look for stat-boosting Innocents like "Statistician" (EXP gain), "Broker" (HL gain), and "Trainer" (Class Proficiency).
- Item Generals/Kings/Gods: Defeating these powerful enemies on specific floors (every 10th floor for Generals, 30th for Kings, 100th for Gods) significantly boosts the item's stats.
- Gency Exit: Always carry a few Gency Exits. These allow you to leave the Item World at any time without losing progress, perfect for when you're overwhelmed or need to bank your gains. You can purchase them from the Item Worlder or find them in bonus gauges.
2. Squad Management
Squads (unlocked after Chapter 3, Stage 3-5) offer various benefits, from passive stat boosts to unique abilities.
- Juice Bar Squad: Place characters in the Juice Bar Squad to passively gain EXP, HL, and Mana without participating in battles. This is excellent for leveling up new recruits or characters you're not actively using.
- Foot Soldier Squad: Boosts the stats of characters within it. Ideal for your main attackers.
- Hunter Squad: Increases the chance of finding rare items and Innocents in the Item World. Essential for serious item farming.
- Capturing Enemies: Some squads allow you to capture enemies. Captured enemies can be interrogated for various rewards, including Extracts or unique Evilities.
3. Evilities and Skill Mastery
Evilities are passive abilities that can dramatically alter your character's effectiveness. Skills are active abilities learned through weapon mastery or class progression.
- Unique Evilities: Each character has a unique Evility. Zed's "Super Reincarnation" is a prime example of a powerful unique Evility that enhances his growth.
- Common Evilities: These can be learned from mastering classes or purchased from the Skill Shop. Look for Evilities that complement your character's role, such as "Violence" (increases stats but reduces EXP gain) for damage dealers, or "Mana Scarcity" (reduces Mana cost) for skill spammers.
- Skill Leveling: Repeatedly using skills in battle increases their level, boosting their power and range. The Skill Shop also allows you to spend Mana to level up skills.
End-Game Strategies: Breaking the Game
Once you've cleared the main story, the true Disgaea grind begins. Prepare for astronomical numbers.
1. Carnage Dimension
The Carnage Dimension (unlocked after clearing the main story and fulfilling certain requirements) features significantly stronger enemies but offers vastly superior rewards, including Carnage-tier items and Innocents.
- Preparation: Your characters should have several Super Reincarnations under their belt, maxed-out base stats from the Juice Bar, and powerful Item World-boosted equipment before attempting Carnage maps.
- Carnage Items: These items have much higher base stats and Innocent capacities than their regular counterparts. Prioritize diving into Carnage-tier Legendary items.
2. D-Merits and Quests
D-Merits are achievements that grant permanent stat boosts to all your characters. Quests, available at the Quest Shop, offer various rewards for completing specific tasks.
- Prioritize D-Merits: Actively pursue D-Merits, especially those that grant significant stat bonuses. They are a passive but powerful way to increase your overall party strength.
- Quest Rewards: Some quests offer unique Evilities, powerful items, or large sums of HL. Check the Quest Shop regularly.
3. Auto-Battle and Demonic Intelligence (DI)
Disgaea 6 introduces Auto-Battle and Demonic Intelligence, allowing you to automate grinding.
- DI Optimization: Spend time setting up effective DI programs for your characters. Teach them to prioritize specific enemies, use certain skills, and heal when necessary.
- Looping Maps: Find a suitable map for auto-grinding (e.g., a map with easily defeatable enemies and good EXP/HL gain) and set your DI to loop it. This is crucial for reaching the astronomical levels required for end-game content.
By following these tips and tricks, you'll be well on your way to becoming a true Overlord in Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny. Remember, patience and a willingness to experiment with different systems are key to unlocking the game's full potential!
