Status Effects & Ailments
Navigating the chaotic battlefields of Disgaea 6 means not only understanding your own units' capabilities but also the various Status Effects and Ailments that can turn the tide of battle. These conditions can severely hinder your enemies or cripple your own forces if left unaddressed. This detailed guide will help you understand, prevent, and cure these crucial battlefield modifiers.
Understanding Status Effects
Status Effects are temporary conditions applied to units that modify their stats or actions. They can be positive (buffs) or negative (debuffs/ailments). While positive effects are generally self-explanatory (e.g., ATK Up, DEF Up), negative ones require more strategic consideration.
Common Ailments and Their Effects:
- Poison: Deals a percentage of the affected unit's Max HP as damage at the start of their turn. This can be particularly devastating against high-HP enemies.
- Sleep: Prevents the affected unit from taking any action for a set number of turns or until they take damage. A unit under Sleep is a sitting duck.
- Paralysis: Reduces the affected unit's SPD (Speed) and prevents them from moving. They can still attack if an enemy is within range, but their mobility is severely hampered.
- Silence: Prevents the affected unit from using Special Skills (including magic and unique skills). This is incredibly effective against mages or units relying on powerful abilities.
- Blind: Significantly lowers the affected unit's HIT (Hit Rate), causing their attacks to miss more frequently. Great for reducing incoming damage from physical attackers.
- Confuse: Causes the affected unit to attack randomly, potentially targeting allies or even themselves. Unpredictable and dangerous for both sides.
- Deprave: Reduces the affected unit's ATK (Attack) and INT (Intelligence), severely weakening their offensive capabilities.
- Weaken: Reduces the affected unit's DEF (Defense) and RES (Resistance), making them take significantly more damage from all attacks.
Prevention and Cure Strategies
Dealing with status effects is a two-pronged approach: preventing them from happening in the first place, and curing them when they do.
Evilities for Protection:
Evilities are your primary line of defense against debilitating ailments. Many characters and classes have access to Evilities that grant resistance or immunity to specific effects.
- Status Resistance: This common Evility, purchasable from the Skill Shop for various characters, provides a percentage chance to resist all negative status effects. Investing in this for key units is always a good idea.
- Specific Immunities: Some Unique Evilities or class-specific Evilities grant complete immunity to certain ailments. For example, some monster classes might be naturally immune to Poison. Check the Evility descriptions carefully.
- "Clear Mind" (Unique Evility): This Evility, often found on healers or support units, grants immunity to Sleep and Confuse. Essential for keeping your support chain operational.
- "Iron Body" (Unique Evility): Provides immunity to Deprave and Weaken, ensuring your main damage dealers maintain their offensive power.
Items for Curing:
When prevention fails, items are your quick fix on the battlefield. Always keep a stock of these in your inventory.
- Antidote: Cures Poison. Easily purchased from the Item Shop in the Pocket Netherworld.
- Awakening Orb: Cures Sleep. Also readily available at the Item Shop.
- Paralysis Heal: Cures Paralysis. Found in the Item Shop.
- Mute Suppressor: Cures Silence. Purchase from the Item Shop.
- Eye Drops: Cures Blind. Item Shop staple.
- Mental Stabilizer: Cures Confuse. Item Shop.
- Power Candy: Cures Deprave. Item Shop.
- Defense Candy: Cures Weaken. Item Shop.
- All-Cure: A highly valuable item that cures ALL negative status effects on a single target. These are rarer than individual cures and are best saved for critical situations or units afflicted by multiple ailments. You can sometimes find these in chests in the Item World or as rewards from quests.
Skills for Curing:
Healer units, particularly the Clergy class, are invaluable for their ability to cure status effects through skills.
- Heal: While primarily for HP restoration, higher tiers of the Heal spell (e.g., Mega Heal, Giga Heal) often come with secondary effects that can cure specific ailments. Check the skill descriptions.
- Purify: This dedicated skill, typically learned by Clergy units, cures all negative status effects on a single target. This is often more AP-efficient than using multiple items.
- Mass Purify: An advanced version of Purify that cures all negative status effects on multiple allied units within an area. Essential for dealing with widespread debuffs.
Strategic Considerations:
- Target Priority: When facing enemies that inflict status effects, prioritize taking them out quickly or applying your own debuffs to them.
- Support Unit Placement: Keep your healers and support units safe but within range to apply cures when needed. Consider giving them Evilities like "Long-Range Support" to extend their reach.
- Item World Preparation: Before diving deep into the Item World, ensure your inventory is stocked with several cure items, as you'll encounter diverse enemies and geo effects.
- Geo Panels: Be wary of Geo Panels that inflict status effects (e.g., "Poison" geo panels). Either destroy the Geo Symbols or avoid placing units on them.
