New Game Plus
Welcome back to Dunwall, Lord Protector! New Game Plus (NG+) in Dishonored offers a fresh perspective on your journey for revenge, allowing you to carry over many of your hard-earned abilities and gear from a completed save file. This mode is perfect for experimenting with different playstyles, achieving high chaos or low chaos runs you missed, or simply enjoying the power fantasy of a fully upgraded Corvo Attano from the outset.
Initiating New Game Plus
To begin a New Game Plus playthrough, you must first complete the main story of Dishonored on any difficulty. Once the credits roll and you return to the main menu, select "New Game" and you will be prompted with an option to start a "New Game Plus." Confirm your selection, and you'll be thrust back into the familiar confines of Coldridge Prison, but with a significant advantage.
What Carries Over?
The core appeal of NG+ lies in the persistence of your character's progression. Here's a detailed breakdown of what you retain:
- Runes and Bone Charms: All collected Runes and Bone Charms from your previous playthrough will be available in your inventory from the very beginning. This means you can immediately invest in powerful abilities like Bend Time, Possession, or Blink Level 2 without needing to search for Runes.
- Abilities and Upgrades: All purchased powers, enhancements, and passive abilities (such as Vitality, Agility, and Shadow Kill) will be fully unlocked and upgraded. This includes both active powers like Dark Vision and passive upgrades like the ability to carry more health elixirs.
- Gear and Weapons: Your full arsenal of weapons and gadgets, including the Pistol, Crossbow, and Spring Razor, will be available. Crucially, all purchased weapon upgrades from Piero's Workshop (e.g., increased Pistol damage, faster Crossbow reload) will also be retained. This allows for a much more aggressive or efficient approach to early encounters.
- Money (Coins): All the coin you accumulated in your previous playthrough will carry over. This is incredibly useful for purchasing additional ammunition, grenades, or health elixirs from Piero and Sokolov's shops without the need for extensive looting in the early missions.
Strategies for New Game Plus
With your enhanced capabilities, NG+ opens up a wealth of strategic options. Consider these approaches:
1. The Ghostly Assassin (Low Chaos Mastery)
If your previous run was high chaos, NG+ is the perfect opportunity to achieve the "Ghost" and "Clean Hands" achievements. Your fully upgraded Blink and Dark Vision make stealth significantly easier from the start.
- Early Power Investment: Immediately invest your carried-over Runes into Blink Level 2 for extended reach and Dark Vision Level 2 to see enemy cones of vision and items through walls.
- Non-Lethal Takedowns: Focus on using non-lethal takedowns (chokeholds) and avoiding detection. Your Agility Level 2 will allow for higher jumps and faster movement, aiding in traversal and evasion.
- Strategic Gear Usage: Utilize Sleep Darts from your Crossbow for distant non-lethal incapacitation. With your carried-over coins, you can stock up on these from Piero's shop in the Hound Pits Pub before each mission.
- Mission 2: High Overseer Campbell: With Bend Time Level 2 available, you can easily incapacitate Campbell and Curnow without being seen, making the "non-lethal" option for this mission much simpler.
2. The Brutal Avenger (High Chaos Rampage)
Conversely, if you played a low chaos run, NG+ can be a cathartic experience for unleashing Corvo's full destructive potential.
- Aggressive Power Usage: Max out Windblast Level 2 for devastating crowd control and Devouring Swarm Level 2 to quickly dispatch groups of enemies.
- Weapon Upgrades: Your fully upgraded Pistol and Crossbow will make short work of most adversaries. Don't hesitate to use Grenades and Spring Razors, which you can afford in abundance thanks to your carried-over money.
- Mission 3: House of Pleasure: Engage the Bottle Street Gang and the Hatters head-on. With your enhanced combat abilities, you can clear areas quickly and efficiently, leaving a trail of destruction.
- Bone Charm Synergy: Equip bone charms that enhance combat, such as those that increase sword damage or reduce damage taken, to become an unstoppable force.
3. Achievement Hunter
NG+ is ideal for mopping up any missed achievements. Many of the more challenging achievements, such as "Mostly Flesh and Steel" (completing the game without purchasing any powers or enhancements) or specific mission-based challenges, become more manageable when you don't have to worry about collecting Runes or money.
- "Mostly Flesh and Steel": While you carry over your powers, you can choose not to use them. The advantage here is having all your weapon upgrades and money from the start, making combat and resource management easier without relying on supernatural abilities.
- Specific Mission Challenges: For achievements like "Art of the Steal" (stealing the painting in Lady Boyle's Last Party without being detected), your fully upgraded Blink and Dark Vision make navigating complex areas much simpler.
Remember, the beauty of Dishonored's NG+ is the freedom it grants. Experiment with different combinations of powers and gear, and enjoy the feeling of being a truly formidable assassin from the very beginning.
