Mission 8: The Loyalists

Welcome back, Corvo. After the shocking betrayal, you find yourself imprisoned and stripped of your powers. This mission is a test of your resourcefulness and ability to adapt under extreme duress. Your primary objective is to escape Coldridge Prison and reunite with your allies. This guide will help you navigate the prison, reclaim your gear, and make a clean getaway.

Escape Coldridge Prison

You begin in a cell, powerless and disoriented. Your first task is to find a way out.

  • Initial Escape: Look for a loose brick near your bed. Interact with it to reveal a hidden compartment containing a Choke Dust grenade. This is your first tool for non-lethal takedowns.
  • Ventilation Shaft: Crouch and look for a vent cover near the floor. Open it and crawl through. This leads to an adjacent cell.
  • Cell Block Navigation: In the next cell, you'll find a guard patrolling. Use the Choke Dust if you wish, or wait for him to pass and sneak past. Your goal is to reach the main cell block corridor.
  • Reclaiming Your Gear: Your equipment is stored in the prison's evidence room. This is a crucial stop.
    • Evidence Room Access: The evidence room is typically on the lower level of the prison. You'll need to navigate past guards and possibly a Watch Tower.
    • Key Location: The key to the evidence room is often carried by a high-ranking guard or found in a guard post office. Look for a guard with a distinctive uniform or a small office area with a desk.
    • Gear Retrieval: Once inside, interact with your gear locker to reclaim all your weapons, gadgets, and most importantly, your powers. This is a game-changer!

Navigating the Prison Grounds

With your powers restored, the prison becomes a much more manageable environment. Your goal is to reach the docks.

  • Outer Yard: The prison's outer yard is heavily patrolled. Utilize your newly regained powers like Blink to traverse rooftops and avoid direct confrontation.
  • Watch Towers: Be mindful of Watch Towers. They have powerful spotlights and can alert guards quickly. Use Blink to get behind them and disable them, or simply avoid their gaze.
  • Guard Barracks/Mess Hall: These areas often contain valuable loot, including Piero's Spiritual Remedy and Sokolov's Elixir, which are vital for restoring mana and health. They can also be good spots to find Rune or Bone Charm if you explore thoroughly.
  • The Docks: The docks are your exit point. You'll need to find a way to signal Samuel.
    • Signaling Samuel: Look for a signal flare or a specific mechanism on the docks that allows you to alert Samuel to your presence. This often involves interacting with a lever or a light source.
    • Final Confrontation (Optional): Depending on your playstyle, you might encounter a final group of guards on the docks. You can choose to engage them, sneak past, or use environmental hazards to your advantage.

Collectibles and Optional Objectives

Even in a prison break, there are opportunities for exploration and gathering resources.

  • Runes and Bone Charms: Keep an eye out for these valuable collectibles. They are often hidden in less-traveled areas, behind locked doors (requiring a key or clever use of Blink), or in guard quarters. For example, a Rune might be found in a guard's personal locker or a secluded storage room.
  • Coins and Valuables: Always be on the lookout for loose coins, silver ingots, and other valuable items. These contribute to your overall score and can be used to purchase upgrades later. Check desks, shelves, and even dead guards.
  • Lore and Notes: Reading notes and journals left by guards or prisoners can provide valuable insight into the prison's layout, guard patrols, or even hints for collectible locations.

High Chaos Considerations

If you've been playing with a high chaos approach, expect a more challenging escape.

  • Increased Guard Presence: There will be significantly more guards patrolling, and they will be more alert. This makes stealth more difficult but also provides more opportunities for combat.
  • Weaker Allies: Your allies, particularly Samuel, may react differently to your high chaos actions. This could impact dialogue and the overall tone of the escape.
  • Environmental Hazards: While not directly tied to chaos, a high chaos run might encourage more aggressive tactics, leading to more explosions or environmental destruction, which can inadvertently alert more guards.

Remember, Corvo, stealth and careful planning are your greatest assets, especially when starting without your powers. Good luck, and may the Outsider's mark guide your escape!
