Exploring the Countryside

Once you've familiarized yourself with Cyseal and completed the initial investigations, it's time to venture beyond the city walls. The immediate countryside surrounding Cyseal is rich with opportunities for experience, loot, and crucial quest progression. However, it also harbors significant dangers. Approach each area with caution and be prepared for combat.

The Eastern Beach and Lighthouse

Your first foray outside Cyseal should be to the east, towards the lighthouse. This area is a good starting point for lower-level parties.

Path: Exit Cyseal through the eastern gate. Follow the main path until it forks. Take the southern fork leading towards the beach.
Initial Encounters: You'll likely encounter a few scattered Decaying Zombies and Rotten Zombies. These are relatively weak but can apply the "Poisoned" status effect, so bring some Minor Healing Potions or a character with healing spells.
Lighthouse Approach: As you get closer to the lighthouse, the enemies become more concentrated. You'll face groups of Burning Undead and Exploding Zombies.
- Strategy for Burning Undead: These enemies are vulnerable to Water damage. Use spells like Rain to douse their flames and make them easier to defeat.
- Strategy for Exploding Zombies: Keep your distance! These zombies detonate upon death, dealing significant area-of-effect damage. Use ranged attacks or spells to take them down from afar. If they get close, consider using abilities that knock them back or stun them before they can explode.
Lighthouse Interior: Inside the lighthouse, you'll find Samson, a ghost. Interacting with him will progress the quest "The Lost Archaeologist." Be prepared for a short but impactful dialogue choice here.
Loot and Exploration: Thoroughly search the beach and the lighthouse. You can find various crafting materials, gold, and occasional equipment drops from the undead. check barrels and crates.

The Northern Road and Orc Encampment

Heading north from Cyseal will lead you to more challenging encounters. This area is best tackled after gaining a few levels and acquiring some decent gear.

Path: Exit Cyseal through the northern gate. Follow the main road.
Early Encounters: The initial stretch of the northern road will feature more Decaying Zombies and potentially some Giant Spiders in the wooded areas off the main path.
Orc Encampment: Further north, you'll encounter a significant Orc Encampment. This is a challenging fight for early-game parties.
- Enemies: The encampment is guarded by Orc Warriors, Orc Archers, and potentially an Orc Shaman or two. The Shaman can cast debilitating spells and heal allies, making them a priority target.
- Strategy:
  1. Scout Ahead: Use a character with high Perception or a summoned creature to scout the encampment and identify enemy positions.
  2. Crowd Control: Utilize spells like Freezing Touch, Stun Grenades, or Blinding Radiance to control groups of orcs.
  3. Focus Fire: Prioritize the Orc Shamans first to prevent them from healing their allies. Then, focus on Orc Archers to reduce ranged damage.
  4. Terrain Advantage: Look for choke points or elevated positions to funnel enemies and gain an advantage.
- Loot: The encampment often contains valuable gear, gold, and sometimes unique quest items. loot all fallen orcs and search their tents and supply crates.

General Countryside Tips

Explore Thoroughly: Divinity: Original Sin rewards exploration. Check every nook and cranny, behind rocks, and under bushes. You'll often find hidden chests, crafting ingredients, or even secret passages.
Interact with Everything: Click on every object you see – barrels, crates, sacks, even seemingly mundane items. Many contain useful items or gold.
Save Frequently: The wilderness can be unforgiving. Save before engaging in new areas or challenging encounters.
Mind the Environment: Environmental hazards and opportunities are abundant. Use oil barrels, water puddles, and poison clouds to your advantage in combat.
Talk to Animals: If you have the Pet Pal talent, talk to every animal you encounter. They often provide hints, initiate side quests, or reveal hidden stashes.
